Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 21, 2008 11:51 am Hi all!
I will be updating my other thread shortly, but I have one ultra quick question for you all When we were doing our house plans, the sales peeps suggested a water and waste point behind the fridge should we deicde to get an ice making/cool water fridge down the track. Awesome idea we thought! We've just been to the house yesterday and the water point is there for the "coming soon" deluxe ice making 2 door mega refrigerator, but the waste point isn't. So the question is, do these deluxe ice making 2 door mega refrigerators NEED a waste point? Whilst I'm happy to have them add it, I'm also equally happy to just get my money back if we don't really need it. Thanks! Alan Alan and Thuy in Melbourne Building a second time! Re: Fridge + water = ? 2Jul 21, 2008 11:57 am Hi Alan,
As far as I know those fridges don't need a waste point. It wasn't suggested to us either by the fridge people or the builder. Do they mean a drain? Maybe for any spillage or leakage or something? I can't figure out why you'd need a waste point for the fridge. But I'm sure others know more than me. Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Fridge + water = ? 3Jul 21, 2008 12:01 pm Well it was suggested at the time that they have an "overflow" outlet... but I've read a few manuals of fridges online and can find no mention of them having any sort of outlet. Alan and Thuy in Melbourne Building a second time! Re: Fridge + water = ? 4Jul 21, 2008 12:05 pm Mmm, interesting. No mention from Fisher and Paykel either.
I hope you're not suggesting there's something else we need to add for these fridges. Bel will have a meltdown!! It just never ends does it? I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Fridge + water = ? 5Jul 21, 2008 12:14 pm Well... in this case it may just be the blind leading the blind!
I've searched a few other brands' manuals, and no mention there either! Well I guess if the builder is going to forget to add a pipe for something, it's best when it's something you don't even need!! Note to readers currently planning their new home: To significantly reduce the odds of an important inlet/outlet being forgotten, request several redundant inlets/outlets throughout your home. Then if one IS forgotten, there is a good chance it was one you didn't need in the first place Alan and Thuy in Melbourne Building a second time! Re: Fridge + water = ? 7Jul 21, 2008 12:28 pm donuts Would be good if they came up with a fridge that automatically got rid of all the old/out of date food for you ... then you'd need a waste point! You say that now, but how many times have you eaten the last bit of chocolate cake a day later than you really should have? Alan and Thuy in Melbourne Building a second time! I'm with you on that one Donuts I just have an old fashioned fridge so sorry can't help on the waste/water Q. Happy at Home Re: Fridge + water = ? 12Jul 21, 2008 9:57 pm Waste outlet???
Never heard of it. Although it reminds me...in the new house we have an integrated fridge that sort of defrosts and has water running down the back (inside) wall. This goes into a hole in the bottom of the fridge.... I wonder if this is what they mean?????????????? I will look up the manual tomorrow, too late now to go through those manuals that are as thick as a dictionary. Paula Re: Fridge + water = ? 14Jul 22, 2008 9:16 pm Toast, I looked up the fridge manual today, it does have a drain in the back for the condensation, but doesn't go anywhere externally. It evaporates from inside.
So I think you need to speak to the builder. Re: Fridge + water = ? 16Jul 30, 2008 1:11 pm are you really talking about a drain point to drain a potential leakage outside or down an adjacent drain ???
A friend a plumber told us to put a drain under fridge and under dishwasher as it is actually surprisingly common for things to go wrong with these 2 things and flood your kitchen. A cheap investment I think. 2 weeks after he told us my sister had a major flood from her dishwasher flooding the first floor of her house!!! Mike 2/3 of the way thru the build I had a similar issue with my fridge not too long ago. It wasn't the same model, but the symptoms were pretty much the same: the compressor would start and then stop… 3 8105 4 10877 This certainly doesn't look good. I would be engaging with an independent inspector to have a look at this. As for the unscheduled site visits, most builders are quite… 1 28392 |
