Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Opinions on ensuite/WIR plans? 21Jul 22, 2008 8:53 pm I forgot about the mirror!!
I may have to move the window above the toilet instead! I may have an issue with the window over the spa in the ensuite too - it is on the front facade. We are having a "walkthrough" robe (ie two WIRs - on left and right of path from bed to ensuite.) Not sure if you have room for that tho. I think your orginal design looked OK, damn convenants. Pho is too slippery for me, takes me ages to finish. Prefer solids, not liquids Corner block, lake view, custom design Re: Opinions on ensuite/WIR plans? 22Jul 22, 2008 9:01 pm Been looking at ur plans for awhile and reckon option 2 is better. All the steam will really leave a stale smell to all ur clothes in the WIR if left open (u know that smell when ur clothes get slightly damp?).
U can open the cavity to the left but u'll have to move the opening closer towards the toilet so not sure if that's much better aesthetically. Are you guys getting charged much for repositioning and changing the plans? We're on a corner block too and our corner treatment is close to 7k! Don't gt me started on S'lands either... one front facing window on the facade needs to be frosted due to an overlooking issue. But next door is a reserve on that side so we don't even have neighbours to overlook! Best bun thit nuong is at Hao Phong in footscray if anyone's interested! Re: Opinions on ensuite/WIR plans? 23Jul 22, 2008 9:10 pm hey JT, havent seen u around the block lately...hehe i've been up there a few times just to pretend where things will be on our land...hahaha ...ur block is HUGE!!!
so far this corner block has cost us about 6k to comply with estate rules... not so much the $$ but more the pain in the butt!!! yea, i think best option is to have the ensuite and WIR closed off from each other....dont want my precious clothes getting ruined!! hehe... i keep looking at my plans waiting for something to come to me...but i think the slide to the left is the best i can come up with.... Re: Opinions on ensuite/WIR plans? 24Jul 22, 2008 9:20 pm We were lucky that none of the plans needed changing besides a couple windows so they all match on the side. The main cost for ours was a 3 column pergola type thing that wraps around from the front to the side... looks ok but i wouldn't normally pay 7k for it!!!
Guess all this is holding up ur july start? I think option 2 and left sliding cavity will be good. Either way, will unfortunately loose some shelf space. We got a spa going into our master ensuite and the HIS WIR (ie mine! which was smaller than the HERS to begin with!) gets reduced even further! LOL she'll prob take that over too no doubt! Got one Simmonds house down Wiltonvale Rd that got scraped. Very exciting to see work starting on blocks! Re: Opinions on ensuite/WIR plans? 25Jul 22, 2008 9:27 pm yes....we are now due to start end of august!!!! its so frustrating having to wait!! i just want the damn thing built........ sorry for the outburst there! hehe
yea, our corner treatment consisted of extending out bedroom wall out a bit, so that it creates a sort of projection...and then it has to be rendered....i've seen some corner blocks around hawkstowe that have a lot more done, so im kinda glad that we only had to do that much *fingers crossed* hahaha, obviously girls have more clothes than boys, so its natural for u guys to lose out on space...hehe i'm contemplating giving fiancee the WIR and building myself a wall to wall wardrobe in the retreat area....hehehe..... ..dont tell fiancee..hehehe Re: Opinions on ensuite/WIR plans? 26Jul 22, 2008 9:34 pm HAHAHA threaten to use part of the garage too! See how that goes down. hehehe Or just give him the choice of either the retreat or the garage... no man will let his garage be desecrated!!! hehehe
I shouldn't prob be telling u that.. in fact I should be on his side!!! Re: Opinions on ensuite/WIR plans? 28Jul 22, 2008 11:24 pm Thuy, can you go with the original plan with the Ensuite and WIR, move the vanity as required but put in a normal sliding door on a track on the inside of the Ensuite which will open towards the toilet?
This way the WIR remains the same and you don't lose any space. H2B Happy at Home Re: Opinions on ensuite/WIR plans? 29Jul 23, 2008 8:32 am Several options you could investigate further:
Go with option 2 with the sliding cavity door and have shelving on the WIR on this wall. Except this short length of shelving does not attach to the wall, get them to run a full length supporting side on the shelf side that faces Bed 1 to provide support for the shelving that cant attach to the wall. Could do it as per wall in option 1 or even same material as WIR shelving ... Or some other structural way of still putting in shelving without attaching to the wall. ? Perhaps this isnt well thought through but I'm sure there are ways of supporting the shelving on this wall? Does it fit / look odd to have the original layout but with two mirrors either side of the required window. Have two separate doors off of Bed 1, one for the WIR and one for the Ensuite (could use cavity slider for the ensuite) and reorientate the layout inside the Ensuite. I didnt start sketching anything (or my pre-build favorite of cutting out the shower, toilet, vanity basins pictures and move them around inside a room!) but there may be a combination that works here? Could even consider splitting the vanity basin into two, ie his/hers to make the moving around / fitting in a bit easier - perhaps split either side of the new door into the ensuite off of the bed 1. Will also get a lot more space inside the WIR this way, but would probably need to move the WIR door to the wall closer to the Bed 1 entrance and swing the Bed 1 door the other way, (ie still opening in but back onto porch / bed 1 wall) - but then again the original plan seems to show that there wasnt a door on the WIR on the original plan (?) Depending on the height of the window required - swap the toilet and the shower on the original plan and have the window over the top of / behind the toilet, ie move the side window towards the ensuite / lounge wall ... sorry for the ramble above - sketches would have been better! Re: Opinions on ensuite/WIR plans? 30Jul 23, 2008 8:44 am How about..
Keep original room shapes. Reduce shower to 90x90, you will need a pivot door opening towards vanity. Split vanity to two, one wither side of 1800 window. The one on the right can be the same as the left, with a laundry hamper in the corner, or you could extend it to give a 'Hers' bigger vanity. Add a normal door. Re: Opinions on ensuite/WIR plans? 32Jul 23, 2008 9:23 am Does it help at all if you put the door directly into the room, rather than via the WIR?

That layout looks great. Good work! edit: maybe a smaller shower may be needed and where to put a towel rail.... might need hooks behind the door to hang towels Re: Opinions on ensuite/WIR plans? 37Jul 23, 2008 10:25 am hey guys, thanks sooooo much for all your opinions...they were all great! spoke to fiancee about a few and there are some we arent going to go with (Rachelle, the split vanity is a good idea, but fiancee doesnt want to split up the big mirror...) but thank thank thank you guys all!!!
toast, ur idea is great! i'll have to see what pd thinks, cos not sure if they will let us do our featured niche on the external wall... was playing around with the plans too...what do u guys think of this? is it weird for the door to be directly facing the bed? toast, i took ur option of extending the wir too!! hehe http://i351.photobucket.com/albums/q460/toybrd/opt3.jpg otherwise, we mite be sticking to the slide cavity sliding to the left (also to the liberty of extending the wir a bit too...hehe) http://i351.photobucket.com/albums/q460/toybrd/newplans.jpg what do u guys think? ta thuy Re: Opinions on ensuite/WIR plans? 38Jul 23, 2008 10:39 am Quote: is it weird for the door to be directly facing the bed? Ours is like that Thuy and I had a quick look thru my collection of floor plans and is reasonably common. The toilet is furthest from the bed, which is good, but you would have to keep door shut, otherwise full view of toilet when you are ****** in bed I guess people usually have ensuite doors shut anyway. I remember given DH a lecture: if we are going for this design you WILL shut the door behind yourself In fact our ensuite is very similar to that last design you posted, in our case there is a smaller window on wall leading to toilet and towel rail will go under that. Personally I still think it is a better idea than the open no-door idea, although some of the other suggestions were very clever. Re: Opinions on ensuite/WIR plans? 39Jul 23, 2008 10:41 am Yeah I don't think that last on is great as you need a bit of wall in between the bathroom and your bed, and you also don't want to be able to see the toilet from the bed! Thanks for the suggestion. The space between shower and sinks was too tight. I agree about the toilet location. So I have tried two other options: The lower one is… 3 6138 the step up is 30mm and wanting it to be flat . how much does the concrete have to be lowered .we plan on removing bath and lenghten shower and adding seat. the old bath… 0 11832 |
