We have been told that they can be a pain, as they will have to be re stained etc every few years. Thoughts? If you love timber and have enough spare time and are willing to look after them then go with timber. However, if you are lazy, or extremely busy and just don't have the time to oil them every 6 months or so, then don't go timber. I should say if you live in the far north then definitely don't go timber or you will be a slave to your house instead of enjoying it. Re: Timber Stain Doors Thoughts? 3Jan 29, 2016 12:55 pm Which direction to these doors face and just as importantly how much shade do they receive from the sun ? If they face due West or North then even if you are scrupulous with your maintenance of them they will fade after a few short years and look old before their time. The hot Aussie sun is the culprit. Stewie Re: Timber Stain Doors Thoughts? 4Feb 01, 2016 3:35 pm So its basically a matter of oiling them up every 6 months or so? as soon as they start to fade. The doors will all be covered in the alfresco area and the internal doors obviously have the cover. Re: Timber Stain Doors Thoughts? 5Feb 01, 2016 3:43 pm Yes they will fade but as everyone said if you have to re apply stain product go for it. I think the darker the stain you will see fading. Also will peel off if not properly stained by the builder. as my friend house (Metricon) stacker door has peeled off from the bottom looks ugly i think its water damaged even few timber windows that directly on sun. But can be fixed by restaining. Im also going with stacker doors rich chocolate by Henley. time will tell but looks good. Re: Timber Stain Doors Thoughts? 7Feb 04, 2016 11:20 am Yer its just the part of the alfresco area which MAY get a bit of sunlight, but apart from that its all covered. So I am guessing maybe a re stain every few years or so. But I have had my current door stained for about 2 years plus and that has been in the sun too and not really faded. So maybe it should be OK. but yes they look amazing when they are done! Re: Timber Stain Doors Thoughts? 8Feb 04, 2016 11:32 am We have the rich chocolate stain with Henley. Ours face west, some are covered and some are not. I think its worth the maintenance. I enjoy doing working on and around the house on weekends etc so just depends on if it will be a chore or not for you. We have aluminum windows on the kids room and in comparison on quality and looks the timber is so much nicer.
