Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 28, 2016 6:35 am Hello everyone! After flicking through these pages for a while we'd like to share our own experience as well. We are first home owners and first time builders so any hints and tips that anyone can spare us would be greatly appreciated ?. We are building in the suburb of Seaford south of Adelaide and have as of yesterday just had our block levelled and being prepared for the trenches to be dug. The builder has estimated a completion time for late June/ early July so here's hoping its a smooth process. I will try upload some photos of plans etc very soon! We got our footings fixed at 15k (so no nasty surprises) by the builder and were able to dump most of our excess soil at Seaford Heights for free. All in all we have been pretty pleased so far and are hoping for a smooth road ahead! Re: First home - Suburban Adelaide - Seaford build 5Feb 05, 2016 8:48 pm Dijm8 we are at Seaford Meadows. It was a toss of the coin between Vista and the South estate but we decided we would rather be closer to the coast (albeit an extra 5 mins). Has your build been a stress free process? Has your build been a stress free process? both sides are very nice , goodluck with yours, by the looks of it you should easily have the slab by next week. my build has been amazing, guys at hickinbotham have been great, fixed issues quickly as ive seen them etc and response times to emails have been within hours... when yours starts to get more progress just be sure to visit daily (if you can pending how far you are away) to pick up on issues as you see them etc Re: First home - Suburban Adelaide - Seaford build 7Feb 08, 2016 11:11 pm Glad to hear that Dijm8. It's not often you hear someone speak highly of their builder so it's great to see one of them doing a great job. Do you have thread so I can check your build out? Re: First home - Suburban Adelaide - Seaford build 8Feb 09, 2016 12:32 am Nice plan Cookie and nice area Re: First home - Suburban Adelaide - Seaford build 14Feb 11, 2016 12:47 am Oh lahlah ... That's major! The slab ... Liftoff! ? We are doing what we can post-build, thanks. Love it here. Moved in, sleeping on camp beds, waiting on new furniture and still got our foot (and stuff) in the old joint ... We have bitten off more than we can chew LOL. Re: First home - Suburban Adelaide - Seaford build 15Feb 25, 2016 9:50 pm Thanks TC it looks like your place is really coming together. I think most will be moving in on their camp beds for the first few weeks, I know I sure will be lol. I seen on your thread you highly recommended your tiler for your 600x600 tiles and I was wondering if you could possibly give us a ball park as to what he charged per square metre for my ever increasing list of post build notes? Re: First home - Suburban Adelaide - Seaford build 16Feb 25, 2016 9:53 pm So we haven't visited the block in a few weeks so we will be heading down sometime this weekend to check the place out. The builder has told us the frame is now complete and the roof should be on very shortly which is uber exciting! Re: First home - Suburban Adelaide - Seaford build 17Feb 25, 2016 10:05 pm Thus far we have done our bathroom tile selections, sinks and tap ware and purchased alfresco tiles and living area tiles at Beaumonts (got an awesome deal as they cut 10 percent off the price quoted by National tiles, we all love a bargain right!) This is our bathroom floor tile which is a very unique surface underfoot. We are going for that 'in' white and grey theme that seems to work so well at the moment which is also reflected in our kitchen with a moose and white gloss finish on the bench, drawers and cupboards. We have chosen monument for the roof colour and also a monument garage. We got PGH liquorice bricks with white sand mortar along with andotic grey window frames. We are rendering the front of the house with a light colour to contrast with the monument and charcoal colours but we don't know whether to go whitish (surf mist) or a very light grey. Any suggestions welcome! Re: First home - Suburban Adelaide - Seaford build 19Feb 25, 2016 10:23 pm Hi, been reading through your build, Nice selections! We chose exile ash lappato for our living area tiles, they are lovely! Your slab looks good, we just had ours done and it is hard to tell room sizes, I bet you can't wait to see the frames when you get out there you will have a better idea then I guess Re: First home - Suburban Adelaide - Seaford build 20Feb 25, 2016 10:26 pm We decided to supply our appliances ourself and managed to get a massive 49 per cent off with Euro for each item we purchased so we threw in a fully integrated dishwasher and washer/dryer as the price was fantastic. It just goes to show that sometimes it's worth shopping around rather than just accepting the builders sizeable marked up products. 900mm electric cook top - Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ 900mm electric oven - Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Fully integrated dishwasher - Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Front load 8.5kg Washer/Dryer - Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The range-hood is being provided by the builder as its covered by overheads and it was cheaper than what we could find ourself.
