Browse Forums Building A New House MainVue Amalfi 532 - Slab Done 141May 25, 2016 9:33 am I totally agree about being able to open the windows, although the picture windows are truly stunning. We have psycho birds around where we live, which I think would have been more likely to fly into the large picture windows.... I can live without the mess that makes. Your space looks good. How many meters is that you have between the back of the house and the fence? viewtopic.php?t=81336 Building with MainVue...Modified Ivory 436...our journey Re: MainVue Amalfi 532 - Slab Done 142May 25, 2016 9:50 am Thats the other thing I wanted to comment on, your back yard looks like a really good size, definitely much bigger than ours. We're basically using the maximum space allowed on our block to build. The kids will just have to run wild at the local parks when they get a bit older. Re: MainVue Amalfi 532 - Slab Done 143May 25, 2016 9:55 am We've got 10.74m from the edge of the alfresco to the back fence. Yeah I'm pretty happy with the left over backyard space, it was a worry for a bit there, but it felt big enough walking around it. Re: MainVue Amalfi 532 - Slab Done 144May 25, 2016 12:17 pm That's good. It's about what we would have had with our Amalfi plans. We've only got 7.1 now but we do have 3.6 down most of the eastern side of the house. There's timber stacker doors down there also- so hopefully we can create a nice, useful space there as well. Re: MainVue Amalfi 532 - Slab Done 145May 25, 2016 12:23 pm Saint Girl That's good. It's about what we would have had with our Amalfi plans. You must have a very similar block size. Yeah you'll be able to make use of that side area, and 7m is still pretty good. Just means smaller trees to make better use of the space I guess. Have you got an idea on how you want to landscape yet, or are you like us and are not even thinking about it yet? Re: MainVue Amalfi 532 - Slab Done 146May 25, 2016 12:33 pm Actually we are thinking a lot about it. My husband is desperate to put a 7x 3.5 pool in. He thinks that we no longer need a big garden or lawn outside. Our dog would argue otherwise... A big decision that I'm sure would pay off when we want to sell but I'm not convinced yet. We would like a substantial deck to go with the alfresco kitchen. but also a grassy area. The girls want an area with a fire pit and seating to entertain their friends. It doesn't sound like they ever plan to move out. I think we are making things to comfy for them! I don't like gardening, so I want low maintenance Start thinking about it! You'll be there before you know it Re: MainVue Amalfi 532 - Slab Done 147May 25, 2016 12:43 pm Yeah a pool would be pretty sweet, but I can see why you're hesitant. Its literally the last thing on our list of things to do/buy after handover. We've got to do flooring (which also includes installing and painting the skirting), lighting, blinds, wardrobe fit out, driveway, concrete walkways, fencing, and probably some other stuff. And on top of all that, we've got to furnish the place as well. Landscaping can wait Re: MainVue Amalfi 532 - Slab Done 148May 25, 2016 1:21 pm You have a huge backyard left Cam, that's great! Libby I love the fire pit idea, we are wanting to do something like that too but also want a dog in the near future so something is going to have to give, landscaping is the hard part I don't know much plants or how best to use the space with what we will have left after the pool....that will be the tricky part. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=81627&p=1505759#p1505759 Re: MainVue Amalfi 532 - Framing 149May 27, 2016 9:06 pm Hey Camma, did they finish the frame? Have you had any deliveries to your site? That always gave us hope that something new was about to happen viewtopic.php?t=81336 Building with MainVue...Modified Ivory 436...our journey Re: MainVue Amalfi 532 - Framing 150May 27, 2016 9:10 pm Nobody attended site at all this week. We did take delivery of the roof trusses today, and the windows came earlier in the week. So all ready to go for next week. I've been assured that the framing should be completed by Friday. Slow going unfortunately. Re: MainVue Amalfi 532 - Framing 151May 27, 2016 9:20 pm There were 8 or 9 guys in the team that put our frame up. It was February, so not only was it warm, it was light for so much longer into the evening. It gets dark so early now. Our neighbours said they barely took a break, other than to ride their skateboards up and down the street every now and then! We were just lucky I guess. I'm sure things will pick up. You went through so much hell during the planning phase...it has to get better from here. viewtopic.php?t=81336 Building with MainVue...Modified Ivory 436...our journey Re: MainVue Amalfi 532 - Framing 152May 27, 2016 9:24 pm Saint Girl There were 8 or 9 guys in the team that put our frame up. We'll be alright on the time frame. I've got a couple of weeks off at the end of September, so I'd love it if they were done by then, but I'm not holding my breath. Re: MainVue Amalfi 532 - Framing 153May 27, 2016 9:30 pm Ha ha worth a try! If you do, I'll make sure I keep my eldest daughter away. She scraped the mirror of her nice, new car on a parked car checking them out as she drove past Good Luck for next week!! viewtopic.php?t=81336 Building with MainVue...Modified Ivory 436...our journey Re: MainVue Amalfi 532 - Framing 154May 27, 2016 9:32 pm Saint Girl Ha ha worth a try! Re: MainVue Amalfi 532 - Framing 155May 30, 2016 12:06 pm Still nobody on site today. Looks like this is going to be a snail pace build. Libby, I looked through your thread to see how we were tracking against your build, and I'm pretty sure that at this time in your build, you had the Colorbond roof on, and most of your brickwork already completed. Plus you had an Easter break in the middle, along with requiring concrete piers to be dug out and concreted, which we didn't need. Starting to wonder what we've done to upset MainVue. We'll be lucky to be finished by Christmas at this rate. MainVue Amalfi 532 - Framing 156May 30, 2016 12:10 pm That's such a shame Camma..... It's such a perfect day to be putting up a frame
Re: MainVue Amalfi 532 - Framing 158May 30, 2016 12:35 pm camma18 It kills me to see days wasted, especially fine weather days at this time of the year. I did what you are doing. I tracked Chloe's build and used that to predict our build. That turned out to be a dangerous idea and is one of the reasons we didn't have enough time in our first rental. If you are tracking our build you need to go for a trip to Perth. You'll have a roof when you get backit worked for us Re: MainVue Amalfi 532 - Framing 159May 30, 2016 1:00 pm Thanks Libby. Yeah I know what you mean. It's not good to model off others' builds, but we're looking at it and it's week 7, and all we have to show is the slab, and the bottom part of the frame. The frame has now been exposed to the weather for over a week of rain. We've had no trades on site during the week since the 10th of May. The framing guys came in over the weekend on the 21st and 22nd. If this trend continues throughout the build, it will take the rest of the year to complete.
