Browse Forums Building A New House Re: MainVue Amalfi 532 - Final Fit off 422Oct 18, 2016 2:56 pm Yes, we got the keys officially yesterday. To be honest, it was more relief than elation that we got the keys. Already doing several final inspections and seeing the same defects time and time again was a bit soul destroying. The house is a mess as well, and we're going to have to give it a full clean before we move in. A lot of sloppy finishes, I guess I just had high expectations, so we'll learn to live with it as time goes on. It'll look much less noticeable when the floors are in and the house is filled with furniture. We've got the timber for the floors being delivered on Thursday arvo, then they will be installed starting the 31st of October. We've also got all our lights to install starting next week, as well as blinds after the floors go in. Concrete for at least the front of the property will happen in the middle there somewhere. Re: MainVue Amalfi 532 - Final Fit off 424Oct 18, 2016 3:23 pm Saint Girl Congratulations Cam, although I'm sad that your experience was a bit rough toward the end. I agree about the cleaning. Ours wasn't too bad, although we can see that silicone was applied over areas that were not thoroughly cleaned first. Sounds like you've got s busy week or 2 coming up. I can't wait to see photos when you're ready to post them. Thanks Libby! Yeah look, I'd be ****** if I said I was stoked with the finish; but all in all it'll be fine in the long run. I'll be out on site on probably Friday, so I'll take a few photos then. Also didn't really have anything to update, as I didn't really know what was going on at home. Good you picked up on that now. Would have been very difficult to book an air con guy in the summer Re: MainVue Amalfi 532 - Final Fit off 429Oct 19, 2016 9:11 pm Congrats on the keys, camma. Sounds like busy days ahead. On the bright side, you can start all your post hand over job and you will be in soon. Can't wait to see updated pix... Absolutely Libby. The build up has drawn out way too long now. Just want to get it over with and get in there. Ive had a look at your outdoor entertaining areas and you've done so well with it! It looks amazing, and turned outside into a very functional space Re: MainVue Amalfi 532 - Final Fit off 438Dec 16, 2016 7:27 am Hi Libby! Yeah things are getting there. I feel like I have an endless number of tasks that I'm barely managing to get through. We're finishing the last of the concreting out the back this weekend, we've filled an 8m skip and another trailer full of backfill that was pushed into our backyard when they did the site cut for the slab. I still haven't finished the deck out the front. We've run the first 4 courses of bricks for our front fence. We only just got NBN installed this week, so we've been living old school for a couple of weeks. Still no Foxtel due to some cabling issues. We've finished all the lighting, so our pendants are all in. Security system is in, but not before some A-hole broke into the house just before the floor guys put the final coat on, and took a bunch of our lights. I still have many things on my list of things to do, and we haven't touched much out the front yet. We have no grass, so it's a dirt farm both front and back yards. But we're getting there How's everything going with your place? Last time I checked, your landscaping job looked amazing! Re: MainVue Amalfi 532 - Final Fit off 439Dec 19, 2016 9:56 pm Hey Camma, just got around to checking your thread for a response. I'm so jealous of that backfill you had. We had to import so much fill, at an enormous cost, just to bring the ground up to the house height. It's one of the reasons our landscaping job took 6 weeks... Truckload, after truckload of the stuff. You're lucky to be in an NBN area, we were told it would be a very long time before it reached us. We had a nightmare 3 months trying to get wifi & internet, partly because we didn't get a phone line put in during the build and partly because my husband didn't want any overhead lines. It took Telstra almost 3 months to put everything in underground. All this while our daughter was doing year 12 and all of us living off very expensive mobile broadband...it was hell. Fortunately it's a distant memory now. Foxtel came quickly once Telstra got their act together. You sound pretty organized so well done. Can you believe we've been in almost 5 months and still haven't got our lighting in!! I can't believe you were broken in to, that sucks.... It's probably not so bad that you haven't got your grass yet. The weather is heating up (finally) and it needs so much water to establish it. At least it's not muddy. Great to hear how you are going. Any photos? Re: MainVue Amalfi 532 - Final Fit off 440Dec 21, 2016 7:06 am Yeah it was a lot of backfill, and we shovelled it all by hand. At least you know your new soil will be decent top soil; ours was mostly hard clay they had pushed over the top of our good top soil when they did the slab cut. Yeah NBN was a disaster. The reason being is because when we knocked down the old property, I had NBNCo come out and abolish all their services to the old house. Then before I called Telstra to put in the new connection, I called back to NBNCo to ask if there was anything they needed to do before I called Telstra to reconnect, to which they replied "no". Turned out when the abolished the old services, they forgot to update their system to show that the old connection was removed. This meant that every time the technician came out, he was expecting to just connect from the box that would be located on the outside of the house, to inside the house. This was a 2 month saga to get connected to NBN, and I work for Telstra and still couldn't get anything to happen quickly. When they finally showed up to do the work, they hinted that getting the cables brought underground like we did with our power was going to be expensive, and take a while to get processed. I told them to just connect it to the roof, and I was well and truly over it. We also had some issues getting the Foxtel installed, as they can't secure the cable from the street to the Colorbond fascia, as there is no timber support behind it. So I had to brace some timber behind it, which was a painful task. But that finally got installed on Monday, so we have all our services installed. I haven't got any photos yet, as our place still looks very much like a construction site. No driveway, half the deck finished to the front, no grass. And inside we're still sorting the place out. I might be able to get a photo of the kitchen, as that's probably the one place that doesn't need any further work. Thanks for much mate. I see that you do cabinets before flooring.
