Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our KDR journey on Lake Macquarie- XMAS HANDOVER 322Aug 03, 2017 12:26 pm Ran into a problem... pipework that isnt supposed to be there and isnt shown on our final sewer plan is there! I had a feeling this would happen it's just right on the corner of the pool so should get away with it being there but the excavator has accidently hit it. After running around making phone calls to our builder & the original plumber (who can't make it till tomorrow to fix) the pool installer is getting his plumber in this afternoon to fix as they want to place the pool in at 7am tomorrow. Bill for this will be getting sent to our builders plumber! AND rain is forecast from 6pm and overnight OMG need to take a breath!!! Were they going to install it today? That's clay down the bottom, not rock? Is your electricity/power points all set up for the pump? (Sorry I think I've asked you that?) Re: Our KDR journey on Lake Macquarie- XMAS HANDOVER 324Aug 03, 2017 2:55 pm cat_dunc Noooooo! Is the pool there? Were they going to install it today? That's clay down the bottom, not rock? Is your electricity/power points all set up for the pump? (Sorry I think I've asked you that?) It actually just turned up now. Not sure about the colour (blue rock), it was either that or grey, but I second guess everything all the time so I'm sure it will work out ok. Yep it's clay on the bottom thank goodness! We got our points and circuit installed when we were building so we just need to hook them up after its all in. We haven't picked a colour yet, strange they haven't asked us to as it's coming in two and a half weeks. Probably better decide soon hey! Ah yes I remember you told me that about the points now. Super clever Re: Our KDR journey on Lake Macquarie- XMAS HANDOVER 327Aug 03, 2017 9:55 pm [quote="cat_dunc"]It's raining here /quote]Yep here too. It's died down though. Should be ok... worst thing is that they will need a pump to get rid of the water. Supposed to clear up around 3am first a fine day tomorrow Re: Our KDR journey on Lake Macquarie- XMAS HANDOVER 328Aug 04, 2017 11:17 am After a quick empty of the pool and hole with a bucket, all went well with the pool install Currently it's being filled but here are some pics so far! It looks huge out of the ground but once in it's a great size. I love the colour. Shannon called today and we picked Blue Spice. Now I wonder if we should've got your colour. Did you ask for the filter to be off centre like that? I love how you've got it close to the fence. I wish ours was that close now. Re: Our KDR journey on Lake Macquarie- XMAS HANDOVER 330Aug 04, 2017 1:00 pm Do you have temp fencing arranged? And how'd you go with pavers? We're going to Amber tiles at Maitland on Sunday. Apparently they have a bigger range? We rang a Sydney shop and freight to lake Mac is $200 a pallet and we'd need two pallets. So I'm not sure that outweighs savings of just buying local. I wish ours was that close now. Here is a pic up a bit closer. Obviously once the pool is clean the water colour will look heaps different. While I like the colour, I think it clashes terribly with the ironstone fence. A lighter blue or grey would of been better but I went with the thinking that darker would be a bit warmer temperature and I really wanted light paver surrounds so thought a light pool might of made it look a bit blah... anyways it's in now so not much I can do about it! Hopefully once we put whatever light grey pavers we use around it, it will look ok. I want to use a drop edge paver too, so really you won't see too much of the actual pool side out of the water. The filter spot was already cut in when it arrived so no choice in that... They were cheaper than hirerite. They turned up when they said they would so all good there. Pavers still looking around. Not rushing with that...most importantly now the concreting needs done. We want to use 600 x 400 size so have based it all round that. Just waiting on some qoutes for the concreting and paving to come through, so we can lock someone in. Have no idea what we are up for... we are also doing an extra slab as the pool pump is going in a garden shed which will also have a toilet in it. Let me know how Maitland Amber goes! Re: Our KDR journey on Lake Macquarie- XMAS HANDOVER 334Aug 05, 2017 3:33 pm hahaha oh my gosh kids are amazing. Swimming in the middle of winter! Did they stay in for long? They're standing on the ledge aren't they? That ledge is a great idea. That said my kids were running around in singlets today playing with water. The pool looks awesome! Eep so exciting. It's not connected up to the filter yet is it? Do you know when they do that? Hmm hard to see the colour clash in the photos, the first photo with the kids the fence looks more brown, but ironstone isnt brown (is it?) so I think the colours aren't right in the pic, well my screen anyway. What are you planning on both fence sides of the pool? If you still don't like it after the pavers are in you could put some large pots with tall plants, or a trellis off the fence and grow star jasmine or some other vine all over it? Do you have much fencing to do? Are you going to attempt DIY? Thanks for the temp fence place. I'll get a quote too. We're getting Mic (i think?) - Tranquility's guy - to do our concrete. Turns out he went to school with my husband. His price was better than the second price we got from another guy on Barrier reef's list. He's doing 30m2 of concrete, with a drop edge corner about 500mm high, and then coming back to lay the pavers. It's not cheap, maybe $6k. I can check the quote if you like. That doesn't include buying the pavers. Hey - is that the excavator bringing the pool in, or the crane? Im wondering now how they'll get it down the side of our house. Yep they were in and out for about 2 hrs lol. Crazy. They are standing on the little bench seat. We thought that bench would be good if you wanted to rest and talk to people over on the alfresco. Ironstone is the deep stormy blue colour. We only will have a slight 10mm around the pool that isn't pavers (on the rear fence) which will be stones, with the neighbours side a bit wider with room for some little plants. I think your right some sort of pots will def break it up. Our garden shed/pumphouse will form part of the fence, then we justt need to come off there and go across in front of our alfresco area. Originally we were going with glass across the alfresco bit, but with kids and a dog I don't think it would be practical, not to mention the cost. What we decided was to go the pool fence in ironstone but use merbau posts to tie in with our alfresco posts. I'll post a pic to give you an idea... and yep we will tackle that ourselves. Ok cool, you guys are using Mick. He came on Thursday morning as they were digging to have a look and is sending us his quote. Your price seems very reasonable. We are also getting a quote from Secure Pave which are highly recommended but from what we have heard pricey. Just the excavator was used to put in the pool... they are pretty good and getting it in tight places. Shannon probably would of let you know if they were going to use a crane as I think that might cost a bit more. Ahhh bet you are so excited, you guys are lucky to get in so quick... maybe someone cancelled as our installer said he was pretty much booked up now till Xmas. We had Jack.. he was great. We don't have the filter hooked up yet as where we want it in the pumphouse the concreting needs done first so he is coming back in a few weeks to finish it for us. Re: Our KDR journey on Lake Macquarie- XMAS HANDOVER 336Aug 06, 2017 8:48 am We are about 2 weeks ahead of you, having our pool installed by Barrier Reef on the 20th. Yours looks fantastic. Like yours, my kids couldn't wait to get in. We had a quote from Secure Pave but he said he wouldn't get a chance to do anything for a couple of months. Then had 2 people recommend All round Pool Surrounds. They came out that week for a quote, and managed to squeeze us in the following Monday for the Bond Beam. Alex and Ben were fantastic and really lovely. We got our pavers from NewTech Pavers at Rutherford, specialising in natural. We went in and looked and then Robert came out on site with samples for us to match up against pool and gave us a quote. We had our gorgeous Pavian white limestone delivered in Friday. Such an exciting time for a family. I can't wait to have our summer's by the pool relaxing with family and friends. Have a look at the pool tile company online. She sent me a price list through yesterday and they were quite reasonable. I can send it to you if u like? They will send u samples too no problem. They are based in QLD though, so freight could out way savings like u said before but it qouldnt hurt to get a quote and see what they can do.
