Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 24, 2016 2:49 pm I figured it was time to finally start my own thread on here after reading along for the past year or so. After finding myself a single parent 4 years ago, we moved into a rental to start afresh, while my ex stayed in our family home. This suited me fine as although the area was great, had beautiful views of the hills and was close to everything, the block was too large for me to manage on my own, and the home was a cream brick 1970's box with very few redeeming features. After our property settlement was reached I started thinking about what I was going to do to have a more permanent home for us. On a whim I headed to Springwood in Gawler East to have a look at display homes to start getting a feel for if I wanted to/could build my own home. Totally fell in love with the place. Went looking at other display villages and land options but kept coming back to Springwood. Although a little further out than I initially wanted, it is so much more affordable, and will be an easier way for me to get back into owning property. Settlement for our block went through in September 2014, and when my lease on the rental expired in March 2015, my son and I moved in with my awesome mum to save money for the build. I decided on the Simonds Palisade quite early on after going through nearly every other builder, and stumbling across the display at Blakes Crossing. I saw that there were a lot of people on here having good experiences with them too. Haydn was brilliant, and we took our time working through every little detail so that when it came time for selections, I already had a very firm idea in mind, and came in a little under budget after selection upgrades. Now I am financially ready to get this thing started! Am hopeful for some activity mid-late Feb! Looking forward to learning a lot from others going through the same thing here 2016 is going to be AWESOME! In the kitchen all of the cupboards under benches will be red cherry, and overhead cupboards white. The yellow is for a pair of overhead cupboard doors to the left of the stove, for a little pop of colour. I love colour, hence the red front door, red in the laundry, and yellow in the kitchen. I collect a lot of vintage mid century and eclectic things, so think it will match my style. Let's hope it all works together. 2016 is going to be AWESOME! Your Gallery selections look great. What flooring did you decide on? We keep going round and round between all timber laminate, or bamboo, or tiles + carpet. Best wishes for a great 2016. Thanks for your reply. I will just wait and see I guess.
