Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 18, 2016 9:36 pm Hi everyone, I am building a new house with Dennis Homes on a vacant land that was previously knocked down. There is this tube looking thing on the land which the sales consultant of our building company does not know what it is. This is the link to the image of this tube looking item http://postimg.org/image/vw58v0twd/ Can anyone let me know what this is and if that needs to be removed/addressed prior to construction? Thank you Re: What is this tube looking item on my vacant land? 3Jan 18, 2016 10:04 pm Something for a sewer or an inspection shaft? Your builder should definitely know how to deal with this. What is the implication of this sewer riser? Googled some info and it's basically as a ventilation? So basically this riser has to be left in place and the house has to be built around it? it is quite an unsightly item I must say…is there anyway to replace it or hide it? Re: What is this tube looking item on my vacant land? 7Jan 20, 2016 10:13 pm The riser you have is not for ventilation otherwise it would be much higher and have a grate on it to facilitate the escaping of a build up of gas. Yours is there simply for rodding access should the mains sewer become blocked. They are usually straight over the top of the sewer. You need to get a sewer diagram from your water authority. Here is Sydney that is Sydney Water ( you don't tell us where you are ). I hope for your sake the mains sewer runs parallel to your fence and not at 90º to it otherwise there can be big costs to build over the mains.
