Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Anyone have a light roof with a light brick?! 22Jan 17, 2016 8:02 pm Wow, love the pics tsmith! I especially like the dark render at the front. What colour is that? Can I ask if you have thought about how you will be landscaping the front.?! We haven't started building yet but it would be great to get some ideas on what people are planning on doing with this themed house. Re: Anyone have a light roof with a light brick?! 23Jan 17, 2016 9:42 pm Here is our light house or as I call it our Whitehouse! We chose light roof and light bricks for energy efficiency but added a small amount of contrast bricks on the porch/balcony and garage door to break it up a bit. We'd probably have chosen a lighter roof, but it was the lightest in the standard range ($). My husband chose a light coloured garage door (Evening Haze) because the house faces west, but I said it looked washed out. Now I know what he means, it does get stinking hot in there but we're going to insulate it with spacesheet. http://i1292.photobucket.com/albums/b572/MandyBarlow/Mobile%20Uploads/photo%203_zpsctoqxkka.jpg http://i1292.photobucket.com/albums/b572/MandyBarlow/Avalon/Now%20building/image.jpg2_zpscm7mycbm.jpg PS. Saintgirl, I though your choice of colours (swatches) are fantastic! Re: Anyone have a light roof with a light brick?! 25Jan 18, 2016 11:00 am Thanks TomCat, with the exception of the dark brick, yours looks similar to the colours we picked. Just wondering what brick you used? Re: Anyone have a light roof with a light brick?! 26Jan 18, 2016 11:03 am bmitchel We have a white roof tiles and moon dust bricks. Surfmist gutters etc. not completely done but here is a pic so far. Looks great bmitchel! Off white would of cost 3k or so Re: Anyone have a light roof with a light brick?! 28Jan 18, 2016 1:18 pm We've got a light brick with a surfmist roof: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I think it can work well, but requires a bit of care. There aren't so many examples around that you can look at for ideas, and it isn't a design direction that is so well explored. I think one thing to take care of is the grey/cream balance to avoid clashes between parts that look grey and parts that look cream. This can be an issue as a surfmist roof lives a bit more naturally with the greys, but lighter bricks tend to be more the cream colours. Also, be clear on where the contrast is. Even a light brick can form a contrast against a surfmist roof, so you end up forming contrasts between more subtle shades. Glad you posted yours. Nice to see them and as Goody said, good for deflecting heat gain Re: Anyone have a light roof with a light brick?! 31Jan 18, 2016 5:27 pm Saint Girl Thanks, looks great and I did check out your thread. You make me want to start buying homewards and our build is yet to commence..lol. What's your main brick colour please? Haha, don't worry I started buying homewares long before our build commenced. I have boxes and boxes. It's going to feel like christmas when we finally move in, as I have forgotten what I've bought! Our brick is Tamala. However, I don't love it, and if I could go back in time I would have chosen a smooth finish or something totally different, like a red brick as I love the contrast of the red with the white window frames. Re: Anyone have a light roof with a light brick?! 35Jan 19, 2016 11:31 am Our brick is the Littlehampton Tuscany, with Littlehampton Bricks being a brick manufacturer near Adelaide. The main colour of the brick is very similar to the Austral Urban One Almond, but the Littlehampton one has a lot more variation in colour, which quite substantially changes the look. Re: Anyone have a light roof with a light brick?! 36Jan 28, 2016 6:39 pm Hi tsmith Are you able to tell me what your render colours, roof etc are - they are exactly what I am looking for. I was thinking a surfmist roof and surfmist garage door, with a dark feature render and light main render (with a little bit of warmth) so it isn't washed out by roof and garage. I wanted a lighter roof but because of the lighter main render everyone seems to have darker roofs. Thanks Re: Anyone have a light roof with a light brick?! 38Sep 20, 2018 5:11 pm TomCat Our bricks are PGH 'Bianca' with off white mortar. Roof tiles: Monier 'Wild Rice'. Gutters: 'Jasper'.
