Great idea to put a skylight in your kitchen, you wont regret that decision! Build thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=81011 Re: Our Forever Home with Ashford - so close but so far 87Jul 26, 2016 7:35 pm We thought the skylight was a must have to get some extra natural light in. I thought it was actually going to be a bit bigger but oh well! Better than nothing. My blog: tashandpaul.wordpress.com Re: Our Forever Home with Ashford - so close but so far 88Jul 26, 2016 7:47 pm Looks great! Is the bench top the same as the timber laminate? And what are you planning to the right of the kitchen where there no overhead cupboards? Re: Our Forever Home with Ashford - so close but so far 89Jul 26, 2016 9:15 pm No, the benchtops are arctic qstone. Still waiting on them. I am a sucker for a white kitchen. The drawers on the side were our addition. Didn't realise how big that space was going to be. Probably should have lined the space up better with the rest of the kitchen and the back doorway and back hallway but was hard to tell on the plans. Oh well! The big clock i purchased ages ago which i think i mentioned on here somewhere is going to go up there. Was going to centre it on the wall but the space is so big i think it will get a bit lost so think i will buy something else of a similar size and put them up next to each other. Or some shelves... Not sure! My blog: tashandpaul.wordpress.com Re: Our Forever Home with Ashford - so close but so far 90Jul 26, 2016 9:51 pm Oh I thought you had a bench top already! Stone will be nice . I'm trying to decide at the moment on ours. We will have white shaker cabinets and was thinking of a light great stone, just not sure it will look good with similar colour tile splashback! The side drawers will give you lots of storage for nice dinnerware, platters etc. Hmm, yes maybe needs something bigger than a clock. Maybe some sort of shelf.. Re: Our Forever Home with Ashford - so close but so far 91Aug 03, 2016 4:13 pm So we received a letter last night from the builder letting us know that the house is in the stages of final completion and the next steps - PCI etc and how this will work. TBH I wondered if they were talking about our house for a minute, I wouldn't say we were that close to the end! I guess we will see, they may have done a lot over the last few days, I have no idea and won't know until I can drop in there tomorrow. I emailed the SS yesterday for an update but haven't heard anything back as yet. They also sent me a final statement showing the balance due and I am questioning a few things with them as some of the sums in our site costs were provisional sums only and I know that they didn't have to do the things that the provisional sums were for, so we shouldn't have to pay them (they should be taken off final balance). Watch this space.... My blog: tashandpaul.wordpress.com Re: Our Forever Home with Ashford - so close but so far 92Aug 03, 2016 8:26 pm Hi TashPaul, It's been wonderful to read through your progress. We chatted quite a few months back before you started building, querying the Ashford work ethic. Its been nice to see that you have had a good run with them. We on the other hand are progressing much more slowly. Our start date was late June (fence, dunny etc), we've had our land scraped, some piers poured (early July) and not much since!! Yes we've had a lot of rain over the past month, but really I was expecting a bit more done by this stage. I hear that our site mgr resigned 2 weeks ago so I think we're in limbo at this stage waiting for a new site mgr to be appointed. Keep up the progress photos. I've loved looking at your choices and wish you speedy ending very soon. Re: Our Forever Home with Ashford - so close but so far 93Aug 03, 2016 8:29 pm Thanks Noni. We did have quite a few weeks of 'nothing' over June/July which was frustrating to say the least. It seems to be back on track now so fingers crossed it is the same for you!! My blog: tashandpaul.wordpress.com Anyone building with Ashford Homes 94Aug 03, 2016 8:31 pm Have signed up with Ashford Homes last year, have had 2 price increases due to land not titling on time. Land is now titled ready to build on and Ashford Homes still not started due to engineering problems in office. No one returning phone calls, emails. Not sure what's going on. Is anyone else having the same trouble. Re: Our Forever Home with Ashford - so close but so far 95Aug 12, 2016 8:20 am So the painting has started and is progressing quite quickly. Couldn't get many pics as we are locked out but got a few of the inside of the garage and the main living room, through the back glass door. From what I can see from outside I am happy with the wall colour - we did choose a very 'white' white (Taubmans Tahira White) as I didn't want to chance seeing tones of blue or cream when it was up on the wall. Some of the skirting internally isn't yet complete (ie where the cabinetry was installed) and the front facade isn't yet finished - some of that also will have to be painted - so I am not sure if those things will get done whilst the painters work on the external painting or if they will have to come back later. Guess we will wait and see. On another good note it looks like our tiles have been delivered. We've FINALLY had our frame finished!! You're paint colour choice is really nice! Internal paint was one of the biggest drainers because I didn't like any of the standard colours. I have a feeling I'm going to hate it but we will wait and see. Have they given you a guesstimate on when your house might be completed? Re: Our Forever Home with Ashford - so close but so far 98Aug 15, 2016 1:39 pm Hi, no, no completion date as yet. I wish! lol. Tiles have been delivered too now so I am guessing that will start sooner or later. I have just emailed our SS as there are a few things that we need to go over - relocating feature tiles in bathrooms etc- so hopefully I get a response. No response to my last two emails..... Our first SS told us that once the tiler starts, keys are generally about a month later, but who knows? Different SS so that may make a difference. Paint colours killed me too which is why we went so plain and 'white'. I figured better safe than sorry. I bought about ten sample pots before finally deciding on the Tahira. If anything it is a bit 'cool' but am hoping that one all the furniture etc is in it isn't noticeable. We are getting tentatively excited now so hopefully everything keeps progressing. We went to Bunnings yesterday and bought the exhaust fan/heat/light units for the bathrooms (cheaper to do ourselves) and the lights for the front pillars. We haven't had to go to Bunnings for a long time, not having a house to maintain, so it was quite fun! A bit expensive though so I am glad we got those things out of the way now. We only bought them now to have on hand for our sparky who is doing all that for us. Good news on your frame, I think they must be or have replaced the SS's that resigned so hopefully that means everyone having issues gets some action again soon. My blog: tashandpaul.wordpress.com Re: Our Forever Home with Ashford - so close but so far 99Aug 21, 2016 8:30 am Another coat of paint has been done and it looks great. Painters have moved on to the external - doors, eaves etc. Pantry, WIR, linen closet, and wardrobes have all been fitted out. Tiling apparently starting next week! Some pics: - linen, pantry and wardrobe (forgot the WIR though) http://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv26/nataisha19/linen%20fitout_zpsw4fb8piq.jpg http://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv26/nataisha19/pantry%20fit%20out_zpshqmuwzk0.jpg http://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv26/nataisha19/wardrobe%20fit%20out_zpsbcengcjc.jpg My blog: tashandpaul.wordpress.com Re: Our Forever Home with Ashford - so close but so far 100Aug 29, 2016 2:49 pm So not a lot to report unfortunately. The big news over the last few weeks was that I bumped into our SS at the house and after having a chat with him was feeling very positive. Now, once again, with nothing happening it is so hard to feel good about things. Knowledge is power - but apparently Ashford customers like to be kept in the dark. Their new 'communication system' - emailing the office - may work for the staff but is just terrible for the customer. I am just crossing my fingers that the tiling starts this week. Last week was the installation of the sliding doors on the wardrobes.... which was done by Wednesday.... and that was all. Yes, a whole week gone past and probably one day's work done.... so frustrating. I am guessing that the tiler was delayed somewhere..... but the painters haven't been back either. http://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv26/nataisha19/spare%20wardrobe%20fitout%201_zpsel9fwpb2.jpg On another note, I have had to send an email as I think that the space for the dishwasher is too small. Back when I could still get in to the house I measured the space as it looked narrow. From memory it was about 590. When I was looking at the plans the other day, the space should be 628..... not sure how hard that's going to be to fix....
