Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our Forever Home with Ashford - so close but so far 101Sep 12, 2016 2:36 pm So after three weeks of....well, nothing (and no explanation) tiling has now commenced - that is to say it is half done already. Must have been towards the end of last week, as I went past late Tuesday and it didn't look like anything was happening. Very happy so far with the job, and of course it will look even better when grouted. The warm toned coloured tiles are making the walls very 'cold' looking though..... can kind of see myself re-painting the whole house, gradually, in a warmer white.... will see how it goes when we are in and all the furniture is also in, might not be so noticeable. A few pics for those that love pics (like me). You'll be able to see what I mean with the paint colour in the last pic, which is of our main meals/living area. http://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv26/nataisha19/tile%20ensuite%202_zpsnor1edgj.jpg http://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv26/nataisha19/tile%20main%20bath_zpsuwj9g3kt.jpg http://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv26/nataisha19/tile%20rumpus_zpsuu81kbfo.jpg http://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv26/nataisha19/tile%20large%20room_zpsk2addikg.jpg My blog: tashandpaul.wordpress.com Re: Our Forever Home with Ashford - tiling! 102Sep 12, 2016 2:51 pm Hey TashPaul, it's looking really good. Although I see what you mean by the wall colour looking cold. However, it may look a little warmer once your all moved in and the house is furnished. Just so hard to tell at this stage Re: Our Forever Home with Ashford - tiling! 103Sep 12, 2016 3:00 pm I hope so!! I really wanted to pick Dulux Natural White but of course couldn't as they use Taubmans. If it really bugs me once we are in, I will just have to bite the bullet and re-paint. It would be a shame though as they have done a great paint job. Would much rather a warm looking white. Oh well I will want and see! My blog: tashandpaul.wordpress.com Re: Our Forever Home with Ashford - tiling! 104Sep 12, 2016 10:31 pm Wow the shower and the niche have come up a treat! You must be pretty excited As for the wall colour, hard to tell right now. Do the floor tiles have grout yet? I can't tell. If they don't then perhaps that will also make a difference. Oh well I will want and see! It's nice to know that despite all the delays, their workmanship is good. I really hope we get trades that do a great job. Re: Our Forever Home with Ashford - tiling! 106Sep 14, 2016 1:27 pm Hi Dani, no, no grout yet. The white wall tiles will have white grout and the floor tiles have 'mudberry' - a colour very similar to the tile. party_of_five - I can't complain about quality to be honest - it seems that all work so far has been good quality. Only ongoing concern is that we still don't have downpipes. With all this rain there is a lot of water pooling on the side of the house. My blog: tashandpaul.wordpress.com Re: Our Forever Home with Ashford - tiling! 107Sep 23, 2016 3:06 pm So the grout has been done - most of it anyway, there are a few 'lines' missing but I think they come back and do those later once the rest has dried. And the front pillars have been tiled and grouted too. Sorry about the bad photos, they were through the windows. In case you are wondering, there will be an 'infill' above the pillars which will be painted monument. Good news is that I think I like the paint colour after all lol! Or at least I can live with it as is. http://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv26/nataisha19/grout%203_zpsct3xsvqi.jpg http://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv26/nataisha19/grout%202_zpso45oiosf.jpg http://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv26/nataisha19/pillars%20grout_zpsjuwchlxv.jpg My blog: tashandpaul.wordpress.com Re: Our Forever Home with Ashford - tiling! 108Sep 23, 2016 3:13 pm That looks awesome! Build thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=81011 Re: Our Forever Home with Ashford - tiling! 111Sep 23, 2016 4:08 pm No idea . Our builder is not very communicative, to be honest, and there have been issues with the company over the last few months. You may have seen the article in the Herald Sun yesterday. You would think that we would be close to PCI and really there is probably about 2-3 weeks work to do, if done consecutively, but everything is taking a very long time to get done. I am crossing my fingers that it is soon, but I know there are others with the same builder who have been waiting for PCI for a lot longer than us, so I assume they will be done first. My blog: tashandpaul.wordpress.com Re: Our Forever Home with Ashford - tiling! 112Sep 23, 2016 9:47 pm Hopefully won't be too long. Build thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=81011 Re: Our Forever Home with Ashford - tiling! 114Sep 28, 2016 9:56 pm I hadn't seen the article, that must have been stressful for you to read. It does look as though the building work is good! You are so close to done Re: Our Forever Home with Ashford - tiling! 115Sep 29, 2016 6:21 am I love your tiles! Your wall colour looks like it's toned down now your flooring is in. It all looks so fresh! - otherwise known as Kym - Re: Our Forever Home with Ashford - tiling! 116Sep 29, 2016 7:53 am Thanks everyone - we wanted to keep the colours quite neutral and light (though the carpet is going to be a brown/grey - was defeated in that decision) so we can add colour and depth with our furnishings. And timber. I love timber so that is a decision I am going to win - already have really lol - and part of that is that we are getting a beautiful timber dining table - it is a bit of a splurge but I love it! Haven't ordered it yet though as we will wait to be in the house and see how big our current 6 seater looks before we decide on the size, and order, the new one. My blog: tashandpaul.wordpress.com Re: Our Forever Home with Ashford - tiling! 117Oct 21, 2016 1:51 pm Hi Tash and Paul, Just checking in with you is your house far enough along that its all ok? Re: Our Forever Home with Ashford - tiling! 118Oct 21, 2016 2:34 pm No, unfortunately, not much has happened since the tiling (the electrical fit off was done but that's it) so there is still a bit to be done. We are in the same boat as most/the rest of the Ashford customers, have to lodge an insurance claim - already done - and go through the process. We are lucky to be in the final stage and if we have a choice with the builder that finishes it, we actually know someone who may be willing. Waiting to talk to the insurance co once the claim is accepted and go from there We weren't overly surprised at the turn of events, it is just really disappointing that the business was let go this much. We still love our house and if we hadn't gone with this builder we wouldn't have built this particular house. It is just a shame that this has happened. Thanks for asking My blog: tashandpaul.wordpress.com Re: Our Forever Home with Ashford - tiling! 119Oct 21, 2016 2:37 pm I am so sorry! I really hope everything turns out ok for you. What happens with warranty claims down the track? Your house does look lovely. Re: Our Forever Home with Ashford - tiling! 120Oct 21, 2016 2:40 pm I am not sure - I think the new builder who takes over will have to provide the 7 year warranty, and I think that is a big problem when finding someone to take over. I may be wrong though - this is one of many questions that I need to ask the insurance people once the claim is accepted. I just really want to see the place finished!! From the time we bought the land it has been over three years so we are really ready to move in. My blog: tashandpaul.wordpress.com 6 11528 Thank you so much for the effort. We will use it to talk with builder. We also had idea of building duplex instead and seeking suggest ions. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=106744 11 13817 Hi VK, I am now retired however I have stood beside over 300 owner builders in the past 18 years that have successfully built their own homes.
