Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 24, 2015 3:26 pm I couldn't find a general thread for Simonds, but I wanted to know if anyone had workmanship issues on their frame? We have nails bent all over the place, wood split, bends to suit angles and nails sticking out, looks like miss cut bits shoved in places... It's just not very neat! Some of the fixes are a little unorthodox according to our building inspector but won't affect running, like this pipe in the laundry they put in the wrong place, frame went on top so they had to put an elbow pipe in, which lucky it's just the laundry tub there (the alternative was digging up the slab). Amazing cos in the old days of a hammer and nails the nails actually went where the tradie wanted it to go - now with nail guns they dont seem to hit the mark very often!! As our build has progressed we realise that with each new trade we have issues and it all comes down to the tradesmen having no respect for their trade resulting in shody work. All I can suggest is do as we have - visit as often as possible and report all issues asap. Dont let the build continue until its fixed as they continue building and covering up the issue then when they need to fix they seem to stuff something else up! Still happy with our house but over the build process. Good luck Simonds Homes 6Nov 14, 2015 6:33 pm I've held back payment of the framing invoice until the acknowledge they believe all framing issues are fixed. They try very hard to just ignore our building inspectors reports and say oh yeah all fixed, no, what have you fixed exactly and how! Because I'm not sure I consider the picture above as 'fixed'.
