Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 21, 2008 8:52 am Now that we have some movement, worth showing I thought I should start my own little topic for our building process.
It has been a long time coming, in waiting for the land release and some outside influenced delays. But we are finally making some progress. I will try and keep you all as up to date as I can, as I know how much we like photos . For the time being I have left all the pics on our blog, I will also try and incorporate some in to this topic as the weeks progress. There is a link to the display home on our blog also, if you want to see a finished product. Ours is basically the same with some exceptions, like extending the alfresco area in length, extending the rumpus a further 800L x 300w, extending the study, kitchen and meals areas by 400L, mirroring the master bedroom, WIR and ensuite with the study and lounge and finally we swapped the lounge and study over compared to the plans. We also went for some french doors off the lounge, where we will create a little deck area, for some adult relaxation still in view of the TV.... Some things I will need to organise in the very near future is for the crossover, more concrete for the Alfresco and coming pergola (extending from the garage back to the Alfresco and some more concrete down the blind side from the laundary. As you will no doubt pick up in some of the photos, our cross over is to the far left boundary and there is a tree in the nature strip in front of the garage/driveway. The estate developers stuffed up and gave us the right sized crossover, they just didn't put it 4.5 metres off the left boundary fence where I requestedit to be, but not in writing. ... Bugger Anyway I don't want this start to be a long winded one, oops too late, so check the blog and I will do my best to keep us in the know and with lots of pics..... To which I am sure there will be plenty, as I have yet to see any one build their new house without some problems associated with it... I am sure we will too... Although I am not wanting any, damn I hope I haven't mozzed ourselves...... I went up yesterday and they had a little suprise for me, that I had not expected....we had wrapping done and completed.... now just waiting on tiles, bricks and plaster. Oh and sparkies and kitchen fit out and painters and carpet layers. Acutally I think we still have quite a ways to go yet... Bummer...

Love your floor plan, it actually looks very similar to ours, only our laundry is on the other side of hallway (behind kitchen), and yours might be a bit wider, and your rumpus is bigger.
The frame pictures look very artistic with the sun shining through. Pretty Re: Building the Rawdon Hill Canterbury..... 7Aug 12, 2008 11:46 am Just thought I would update with some more pics. We had our pre plaster inspection with Kev yesterday afternoon also. Went really well and was only able to find two faults. Both are very quick and easy to rectify also, which is fantastic news for us as now we can keep moving forward with the building.

I don't know how to make them any smaller on here...... I took a few more images around the area that morning they came out really well, but I was not paying attention to the foreground too much.. There were rubbish bags in the image for whcih I could not remove or crop out with out stuffing up the photos.... So I ended up deleting them... Gav & Vanessa Building In Melbourne (Sth East Suburbs) http://www.arkraider.blogspot.com/ Rawdon Hill Construction - Canterbury Heritage Re: Building the Rawdon Hill Canterbury..... 10Aug 14, 2008 9:10 am As you all know we had our inspection done the other day and only had two issues bought up, on basic and fixed already.
The other, in the two images directly above this post with the garage brick work started, you may notice that the brick work for the garage will also be brick venier (frame and plaster with brick). This is at the discretion of the builder according to the HIA contracts. I don't have a problem with this at all as it is extra $ cost to the builders not me. However by doing it this way an not the way in the original plan, Brick wall with brick piers, we have a situation. Easily rectified they say..... The option is that as it stands the garage frame would rot out in no time as the frame and brick work on the slab are at the same level, by the way our SS had picked this up the day before our inspection also and was refering back to the building company, because there is no waterproof membrane and drop down on the slab as per normal brick and frame set up. The rectification is, they will cut the base of the frame off (only required on that wall) and then build another internal brick wall, approx 6 courses high and then fix the frame to that. There by lifting the frame off the ground. All at no $ cost to me only time... But won't I loose a little extra space in the garage, or is it not worth worry about? Or is there something I may be missing here??? How exciting for you.
Keep those ohotos coming. And I have got to say that the photo of the "shack" you have taken should really be entered into a competition Its stunning. Look forward to seeing the progress. Building with Porter Davis since October 2007 - what a nightmare!!! Re: Building the Rawdon Hill Canterbury..... 12Aug 14, 2008 1:17 pm Photos are great, I actually love the big size Hope you don't mind but I've saved a copy of the photo of the shack in the fog, I love it!!! Will print it out and see what it's like. Nice photos!
Sorry I am no help when it comes to the garage issues. Might leave that for one of the guys to answer.... I'm just pleased that you don't have to fork out anymore $$$ Happy at Home Re: Building the Rawdon Hill Canterbury..... 13Aug 15, 2008 8:23 am bubaloo wrote: Quote: And I have got to say that the photo of the "shack" you have taken should really be entered into a competition Its stunning. Praise where praise is or was due...... that was back on the 11/08............................... It is now the 20/08..................... And I have nothing further to show you at all.... nadda, zip, "0", zilch, Sweet "F A", bugger all....... anything else I may have left out I apologise for....... OK, so it has been raining...... last time I checked the bloody house has a roof on it......... Surely some chippies could have come in to the garage and put up the support bracing for the garage in readiness for the, eventual, return of the brickies..... Nut!!!!!! Speaking of chippies, they could have also been in to move the window, that is to be moved, again in anticipation of the eventual return of the brickies. The plumber could have been in to simply do the 10 second fix for the plumbing that is touching the bracing. "When the metal pipes and the metal bracing touches it causes a reaction of the two metals and consequently the weaker, generally the copper pipe, will corrode." Anyway, since the 11/08 myself and a mate have pre-wired the data cables and aerial coax for the points required, which has been good to do. Just so damn frustrating........ Hi Gav, I only printed it out from my little epson picturemate printer on a 6x4 and I love it. I have a friend who uses a printing place for her work and later in the year she is going to order a large print for me. Sorry to hear that the tradies haven't been. Our brickie has been working in the rain but Sharee's brickie (building up the road) aren't.
