I just checked your blog... nice kitchen you've got. Lots of cupbards! Love it! and I'm a fan of the Pearl colours... Looking forward to your updates! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: Building the Rawdon Hill Canterbury..... 22Sep 16, 2008 10:44 pm Great pics on your blog Gav, it all looks familiar to me because we seriously considered the RH Canterbury for a while and made several trips to the display in Pakenham. Geoff - Decophile. Re: Building the Rawdon Hill Canterbury..... 23Sep 17, 2008 12:10 am OK... Well here goes...... I hope it is not to long winded...
Couple of issues so far... Obviously the kitchen overhead cupboards being the wrong colour is obvious from our blog. The cabinet makers have made all beige and they should be beige kicker, beige underbench cupboards and drawers and all the overhead cupboards should be in pearl dust. Two options the cabinet maker has given me so far is, 1st......he can replace the doors not a problem and can probably do so in the next couple of days.. Fantastic.... But what about the underside of the overhead cupboards? They would still be beige....... 2nd.....OK, we can replace that also, he said, but it will take a little longer, approx 1 week..... Then this may bring another issue up.... What about the vertical boards, beside the fridge and both sides of where the wall oven will go.... Do we change the colour of those also or do we leave it as is????? http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p397/arkraider_2008/Kitchen/IMG_1006.jpg http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p397/arkraider_2008/Kitchen/IMG_1009.jpg http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p397/arkraider_2008/Kitchen/IMG_1008.jpg We are not sure what to do here..... We are thinking to leave the verticals as is and get the complete overheads changed to correct colours... including doors and under sides of the overheads....... Any suggestions??? Another couple of issues discovered earlier tonight, whilst checking over some images we took from the display home, talking to Ness about another issue she bought up whilst reading and going over the blog.... Both we will definately have to bring up with our SS or management one of the two or both..... Firstly the bath in the bathroom..... http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p397/arkraider_2008/Kitchen/IMG_1002.jpg Obviously our home.... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The display home.... how it should look....... Any suggestions......... Secondly.... I will have to go over our plans again with a fine tooth comb and the list of products that were used in the display home and try and match the two to find where the error has happened. Refers to the front windows of the M/Bedroom and Study.... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Once again...Obviously our house..... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The display home... notice how high up the bottom of the window frame is??? Also compare the view outside the front of both homes....... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p397/arkraider_2008/IMG_0998.jpg Again.. obviously ours.... http://www.rawdonhill.com.au/NEW/canterbury.html Bugger I can't seem to get that image on screen....Anyone else?? Any opinions, suggestions.... all would be appreciated.... and bugger... I know a little long winded after all ..........Apologies.... With the kitchen issue - I would insist on getting it ALL changed to how it should be - but I wouldn't care how long it took, if time is an issue for you, then maybe you need to weigh that up yourselves (esp if you're living with the rellos! ). With the window - we had a similar issue. Have you checked your elevations, and counted the courses of bricks underneath the window? That's what I did and decided it wasn't right. Re: Building the Rawdon Hill Canterbury..... 25Sep 17, 2008 12:23 am Hi Gav,
I'm sorry, but I would want all the kitchen changed, but if time is an issue then maybe leave the side panels. The bath is just so wrong. What does it look like at the other end? Is it possible they installed the wrong size bath? Sorry, I'm just struggling to work out how they got that so wrong Good luck! 'chelle We have a hand-over date...15/10...but I won't hold my breath! http://people-in-glass-houses.blogspot.com/ Re: Building the Rawdon Hill Canterbury..... 26Sep 17, 2008 12:27 am Thanks for the input Donuts.... we will be getting the kitchen re done with the correct cabinets and colours... definitely...But there is no mention of the uprights... in either mine or the cabinet makers plans, information or drafting... Typically the upright boards are the same colour as the kickers, which is what they are at the moment, but we think we may have a small window of opportunity here to change them... but unsure if we would like to thcange them to the same colour as the overhead cupboards should be.... Damn I hope this makes sense...
With the front windows, if you look at the website url... you will notice about 4 coarses of bricks under the windows... but with ours... there is only about 1 and a half coarses... I/We think they have supplied the wrong windows... Gav & Vanessa Building In Melbourne (Sth East Suburbs) http://www.arkraider.blogspot.com/ Rawdon Hill Construction - Canterbury Heritage Re: Building the Rawdon Hill Canterbury..... 27Sep 17, 2008 12:30 am Oh I see what you mean with the kitchen now. Yes, if you can get it changed to the cupboard colour, this sounds like a better option than kicker colour?? I think??
And with the windows - yes that is what the display has, but I would have thought you need to check your plans, as this is what was signed off on?? If there are different windows in your plans/elevations than the display home ones? Hope *I* am making sense .. it's late Re: Building the Rawdon Hill Canterbury..... 28Sep 17, 2008 12:42 am 'chelle Hi Gav, The bath is just so wrong. What does it look like at the other end? Is it possible they installed the wrong size bath? Sorry, I'm just struggling to work out how they got that so wrong Good luck! This might help... I just noticed it myself... Have a look at how much room has been left at the shower end of the bath surround !!!! http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p397/arkraider_2008/100908/IMG_0984.jpg Gav & Vanessa Building In Melbourne (Sth East Suburbs) http://www.arkraider.blogspot.com/ Rawdon Hill Construction - Canterbury Heritage Re: Building the Rawdon Hill Canterbury..... 29Sep 17, 2008 12:44 am Hmmm! Looks like they put the bath surround in the wrong way!!! My thoughts.......they need to change the whole overheads, you don't want the doors changed and then see a different coloured base when a cupboard is opened. They need to move the bath down towards the shower and fill in that space as per display. It looks much neater. Do what donuts suggested and look at the brick lines on your plans. I think they've stuffed up here big time and need to lift the windows. But......if you are happy with the windows leave them. It looks like the window frame will be right above the skirting board. As for the frame around fridge etc, I'm not sure if you match the lower or upper cupboards. Sorry. Despite the current problems, the house looks great and you must've been excited to see your kitchen go in even if it was wrong! Re: Building the Rawdon Hill Canterbury..... 32Sep 17, 2008 9:00 am I just had a look at the bathrooms pics again........you'll notice that on display the taps are off center to the window yet in your house they are centered and that is probably why the bath was put in where it was. They've centered the bath to the taps. Bath looks like it was put in the right way going by the arm rest in the two pics............if they move the bath towards the shower to fill in the space at the end then they'll need to move the taps too otherwise they won't be centered to the bath Re: Building the Rawdon Hill Canterbury..... 33Sep 17, 2008 12:14 pm donuts 'chelle Hmmm! Looks like they put the bath surround in the wrong way!!! Yes it does! Nah, the bath is in the right way just too far down the bath support frame, I think..... We will definitely get this fixed, because finished result will look crap.... in IMO.... Re: Building the Rawdon Hill Canterbury..... 35Sep 17, 2008 12:17 pm I have also just been looking through our elevation plans.... and in elevation 1 the very bottom of the window frames in the m/bedrrom and study should be to the base of the 5th course of brickwork.... Unfortunately the display home appears to be to the base of the 6th course brick.....
But we are only on the 4th brick.... so something is wrong.... Gav & Vanessa Building In Melbourne (Sth East Suburbs) http://www.arkraider.blogspot.com/ Rawdon Hill Construction - Canterbury Heritage Re: Building the Rawdon Hill Canterbury..... 36Sep 17, 2008 12:53 pm Gav - they stuffed up our front windows too (twelve months ago, think they would double check front windows now)!!
Check the code on your plans, and check that the code corresponds to the window size (measuring what you have and comparing against A&L's website). Looks as if your windows are the same as the display, so everything should be the same height internally. Is your ceiling height the same as displayed? If it isn't due to anything you have altered from the original plans definitely make them change it, looks way better in the display home. Someone really stuffed up with your bath ... my concern now would be whether they are able to move it due to the drain pipe location? Thanks Lyn, I shall doo all that you have suggested...I will be heading up the thouse very shortly and will take a tape measure, pen and some paper... Our ceiling height is the same as the display, no changes there... How was yours fixed up???? Gav & Vanessa Building In Melbourne (Sth East Suburbs) http://www.arkraider.blogspot.com/ Rawdon Hill Construction - Canterbury Heritage Re: Building the Rawdon Hill Canterbury..... 38Sep 17, 2008 1:07 pm Forgot about the kitchen ... yeah... the kitchen guy stuffed up part of ours as well ... too much of a pain to fix (one set of drawers were the wrong sizes ... long story).
Can you live with the beige overheads or are you really set on the Pearl Dust? Good move putting the Kalahari Topaz benches throughout, nice colour and it hides any dust/dirt really well! Your exterior looks really good, wish the Canterbury had been around before we started the building process. Re: Building the Rawdon Hill Canterbury..... 39Sep 17, 2008 1:15 pm arkraider How was yours fixed up???? We picked up the window fault before they were bricked in (installed 3/4 height windows instead of half height), so they just adjusted the framing and ordered new windows. One window looks fine, but with the other there is a slight difference in the mortar thickness (and level) along the line where the original framing had been. Ours was a drafting error with the actual window codes on the plans being incorrect (even though the elevation showed the windows being as per the display). Can't find the plans right now but I think the first two digits of the window code represent the height?? Re: Building the Rawdon Hill Canterbury..... 40Sep 17, 2008 1:20 pm this may sound silly, but is it too late to change window heights if bricks are already there? Howdy all.
