Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Anyone else regret building a new home? 41Jan 09, 2016 9:09 pm Hi aloenyx I didn't get a sample for my roof tiles so looked it up on the manufacturer's website and it looked blue. So before I signed off on it I drove out to some distant industrial estate to see it in person and was given samples. Thankfully it wasn't blue. If only they gave out more samples. Re: Anyone else regret building a new home? 42Jan 09, 2016 10:06 pm Yes - verbally - it's not noted down "anywhere" apparently. They blamb the selection designer I was sent to - by them. She says tile layout is not up to her as only tile selection and coloursare here area, she says shes the colour designer - not a tradie and she doesn't stick things on walls. It was totally missed at prestart thanks to that liason lady. I followed it up -with another one via email - she tells me I have to wait for the tiler appt. So I do. What else can I do???? The tiles involved are the oversize white subway tiles for all 3 rooms. So they will tie in with the ordinary white subway tiles done in brick bond in the kitchen. It's not rocket science. I followed up - they have stuffed up and seem to be wiggling out of fixing it. And did you pay extra? Re: Anyone else regret building a new home? 44Jan 10, 2016 10:43 am OllyOllyRumbah Hi THX And the name Silver Spoon made sense to be a grey carpet. I have a Toyota Camry, it's colour is called Sakana Silver, but it is not silver. In fact googling Silver spoon, and looking at Carpet one's Silver Spoon carpet, the colour is remarkably similar. More champagne than silver. As mentioned above the name of something is totally meaningless, as demonstrated by these two cases. http://www.carpetone.com.au/dubbo/produ ... ver-spoon/ Anyway that said, the core issue is you were shown one product (regardless of name) and something else was installed. In which case prove it and get the builder to fix it. Re: Anyone else regret building a new home? 45Jan 10, 2016 11:43 am "and get the builder to fix it" Sometimes that's a lot easier said than done. The builders generally have the Building Commission in their hip pockets and they'll just mess you around, coming up with solutions that minimise the cost to them and maximise the inconvenience to the homeowner until you either run out of money or give up and fix it yourself. Re: Anyone else regret building a new home? 46Jan 10, 2016 12:19 pm I was told everything would happen at the meeting with the tiler. That's all they would say. The confusion with the name could have been avoided if you double checked but it shouldn't be necessary to do that if the person did their job properly in the first place and knew the correct name of the product. I'd be fighting to have it rectified, for sure. Having said that it comes down to your word against their's and that's a really tough (if not impossible) situation. Re: Anyone else regret building a new home? 48Jan 12, 2016 8:48 pm Hi Bjhf I may as well talk to a brick wall, no one is interested at Hallmark Homes in what I am saying. No one wants to take responsibly or even answer my questions. My PCI is tomorrow and I have an independent building inspector going through with me. Will be interesting to see how many defects will be found. I really just want to move in asap. My house has been sitting there pretty much finished since beofre Christmas. Re: Anyone else regret building a new home? 50Jan 13, 2016 4:42 pm Had PCI with Hallmark Homes today and was told by the construction manager to write a nice letter to the directors of the company and ask nicely if they could change the carpet to the one I selected. Apparently they view this favourably. So in other words I should suck up to get the carpet I actually selected and paid for. I started off being nice and patient but got nowhere as they were disinterested and just fobbed me off. Re: Anyone else regret building a new home? Told to suck up 51Jan 13, 2016 6:11 pm Anyone else been through this? Re: Anyone else regret building a new home? 52Jan 13, 2016 8:26 pm Maybe try what they suggest and keep the other options in your pocket - they may come to the party as a gesture of goodwill. Then if it doesn't happen you go forward with your other options. I'm sort of going through this with bathroom/ ensuite and laundry tiles and the layout of the tiles and at the moment. If all else fails - The Building Commission complaint sounds the way to go. Then lawyers - esp if it involves warrantee and house structural issues. Keep being the squeeky wheel and CC the letter to as many ppl as you can. Keep up the papertrail and if you phone =follow up with an email basically regurgitating the contents of the call and saying you hope that XXX outcome can be achieved. The level of customer service my builder offers is appalling. They absolutely refuse to install the correct carpet and are now treating me like I am some sort of pest. How dare I insist on getting the carpet I have paid for. They just want their last payment. Re: Anyone else regret building a new home? 54Jan 14, 2016 1:52 pm I would get advice right now before giving any last payment. You will lose whatever leverage you have by doing that. I have pursued all avenues thus far and Hallmark Homes are implying I am a lair. In regards to the wall hung basin in the WC that has poor quality plumbing but is not yet defective because it currently does not leak, this is an issue that I am speaking to QBCC about. I want them to inspect it because the work is below poor quality and I am worried about damage it may do to the walls later on. Hallmark Homes promise quality work and attention to detail but in regards to my wall hung basin's plumbing the work is appalling. I am beyond fed up having to argue to get what I selected and paid for and to get quality work in my brand new home. Re: Anyone else regret building a new home? 56Jan 15, 2016 12:23 am No progress as yet, however our case is at the lawyers and "being reasonable" or "being seen to be reasonable" even though you know they don't give a flying cr&p means you keep up the papertrail and may give the builder time to come to the conclusion that you aren't going away and it's better for them if they fix the problem. They just want to get onto the next build. I think they purposely do this because they know some ppl are just going to drop it as they can't be bothered for whatever reason. Keep going!!!!!!! Can you get quotes on what it would cost you to rectify the problems???? Maybe you could come to an agreement that- such a cost could be credited back to you and you fix it after handover??? Not much of a win - but maybe a last ditch option to consider when you get down to final offers/ solutions. Taking it to another agency may take time but they are there for a reason- I'm sure it will be worth it considering what you are stuck with right now.
