We are in the middle of a nightmare too. But once they get you to sign all bets are off and they have you over a barrel. I read your time line, wow a whole year to lockup. I will be angry if my house take that long. I was a bit angry when they have a delay around 4 weeks after slab down on 26 of Feb 2014, my house reach lockup on 10 of December 2015. Re: Anyone else regret building a new home? 13Jan 06, 2016 3:07 am 22 months from slab down to lock up? My goodness I would of went mental at them! That is bloody crazy!! They normally leave the slab to cure for 4 weeks before laying bricks. The longer they leave it the better Re: Anyone else regret building a new home? 14Jan 06, 2016 10:59 am Sorry to hear your not enjoying your experience ;-; I'm half and half, I love being able to design my house, but the stress is getting to me. My land hasn't even settled, but I'm pretty over it already. I really like my builder, but everything seems to take longer than I expect. I just want this build contract done and dusted and for things to get moving. Re: Anyone else regret building a new home? 15Jan 07, 2016 10:02 pm perthgirl16 I totally agree. We are in the middle of a nightmare too. But once they get you to sign all bets are off and they have you over a barrel. Agree 100%. My carpet battle continues - this is one stuff up I feel very strongly about. Paying nearly $3000 for carpet that is ugly annoys me. I just found out the carpet company offers a 30 day replacement guarantee for reasons such as the colour doesn't match your furniture or you don't like the feel of it under your feet. I have been in contact with one of the owners of this company but he failed to tell me about this guarantee. Considering the carpet I selected isn't even close to what was installed - I selected dark grey and a light brown has been installed, let's see if the guarantee applies to me. Staff at my builders are fobbing me off and before Christmas the carpet company owner was more than happy to help but now he wants nothing to do with me and won't return my calls or texts. Re: Anyone else regret building a new home? 16Jan 07, 2016 10:07 pm archetto Once you move into your home you will forget ever building it and all the stress that came with it, you're so close to the end I don't regret building my home but the process was very long and tiresome and the stress caused health issues but now we are in, I don't even think about it anymore. Hi Archetto Too many stuff ups to forget and an ugly coloured carpet that doesn't match the rest of the house will be too hard to ignore. Picked one of WA's supposedly best builders (DAH) and 4 years out we're still fixing their stuff-ups[/quote 4 years later and you're still fixing their stuff ups? What did they stuff up? That's been going on for too long. I also picked a builder in Qld that apparently has a good reputation but did I get that wrong. Looks like I'll be off to QCAT for my problems if Fair Trading can't sort it out. And I'm not even in my house yet. Am getting independent inspectors in. Does anyone know if electrical inspectors exist? Can they inspect electrical work after completion? How did they install the wrong carpet? I mean I assume you picked the carpet, and signed off on it. I'm on my 3rd build atm and it's easy to automatically blame the builder but it's a contract, you need to read it, double check every single choice you made and yes despite that, you'll make mistakes but 99% of those mistakes get forgotten after you move in. The vast majority of people don't even get a choice in colours/styles/layout when purchasing a house. A survey must’ve completed by a certified surveyor.
