Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 20, 2015 5:23 pm Hello everyone ! I have paid deposit for a corner block and would like to get opinions if it is suitable for building or not. It has an electrical substation on one side. This is/was the cheapest block in the release and have not built before. Any advice of a builder/similar house built ? http://imgur.com/eaHIhuI Re: Corner block advice please 4Dec 20, 2015 6:21 pm I think you might find it difficult to fit on a single storey home but a double story should be fine. viewtopic.php?t=81011 Build thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=81011 Re: Corner block advice please 5Dec 20, 2015 6:42 pm Jaff Hello everyone ! Any advice of a builder/similar house built ? http://imgur.com/eaHIhuI Hey Jaff We are building on a corner block that is over 100sq smaller and we are building a two storey. You could fit a real nice two storey on that easy Re: Corner block advice please 7Dec 20, 2015 6:48 pm Jaff thanks, was thinking of a double storey as well. cheers do you have a particular side where the driveway needs to be? Re: Corner block advice please 9Dec 20, 2015 6:52 pm That is awesome that will give you so many options of how you want to proceed. Are you going one or two car garage? Re: Corner block advice please 13Dec 20, 2015 7:19 pm We built on a corner, we did double storey to maximize our block and now we have a great backyard, a corner block was a must for us Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Re: Corner block advice please 14Dec 20, 2015 10:25 pm We're on a corner too. We wanted a second access to park a truck out back. We built two storey to maximise the block too (15m x30m) so we'd get more outdoor space. Our second frontage (30m stretch) faces north so we have all our living spaces on that side. Our garage (twin) is on southern side, off the corner. Have a good think about orientation and how you'll use outdoor space. Eg. We pushed our house away from corner so we'd get more outdoor space for dogs. We should get our keys next week. Love corner blocks. Love my house ... Can't wait to move in Re: Corner block advice please 15Dec 21, 2015 12:07 am I grew up on a corner block but one where it was wider than it was deep. When we were buying our land we had the choice of block in a culdesac or a bigger block on a corner. We choose the corner because it allowed us to put the pool on the side and still have a good sized yard out the back (21m x 45m). Re: Corner block advice please 16Dec 21, 2015 9:22 am We are in the process of doing a knock down rebuild on our corner block and is going well. I think as long as you know what kinda design you want then go find a builder that will do it. We were only after a single story design (personal preference) and we found a lot of builders tried to talk us into a double story design but if you look hard enough, you will find someone to accommodate your design on your block. So yes a corner block can def be built on Re: Corner block advice please 18Dec 21, 2015 11:32 am That is a very good question Jaff. I've never seen one, and you don't see many designs especially for corner lots which is a shame as you could really make some lovely design features on the corner. (Thinking of Federation and Queen Anne style return verandas -- builders of bygone eras got it right). Doesn't matter though because you can either design your own and go to a custom builder or do what we did ... Visit heaps of displays til you get a feel for the space, flow/layout and design features you want; then find a plan that roughly suits you and modify it with the builder. Fun! Corner block advice please 19Dec 21, 2015 11:57 am Federation homes have a lot of layouts suitable for corner blocks. I am building with Burbank. viewtopic.php?t=81011 Build thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=81011 Re: Corner block advice please 20Dec 21, 2015 12:03 pm TomCat We're on a corner too.
