Re: About to buy land (need some help) 6Dec 15, 2015 3:21 am I'd initially got my compass points mixed up, & thought the living/theater face north, which would be ideal. That long western facing wall (with many windows), won't exactly be ideal. As Bashworth says, it'll get very hot in summer. He's also right about the fact that E & W facing eaves aren't very effective as the sun is lower in the sky at this time of the day. A larger W facing verandah may be somewhat effective, as may be external blinds & awnings, planted trees & window tints. None are ideal though. Along with a long W face, the house only has a short N face, much of which is taken up by the garage. This could result in a dark house, that is cold in winter. Generally you want the long axis of your house to face N/S, with the living areas facing N.
