Re: Fed up with my builder - now crapping in my toilets 7Dec 16, 2015 3:12 pm You are never gonna stop them using the toilet, they can leave as many notes/signs whatever but the tradies will still use it. The tradies used by building companies dont care about these things, its no different to a tradie doing damage to another tradies work, they dont care coz they are not the ones that have to fix/worry about it. If you are that worried about having a brand new toilet i suggest asking them to fit a standard toilet, refund u the cost of the upgrade and then replace the toilet yourself post handover... Otherwise go buy some good toilet bleach and move on. Re: Fed up with my builder - now crapping in my toilets 8Dec 16, 2015 3:27 pm I already paid for the upgraded toilets which are already installed. I want them replaced or refunded because they are no longer new. I understand we all have different standards and expectations and this is one pet hate of mine. As I said I have already paid for these toilets and I paid for new toilets, last time I checked new means not used. There is a toilet for the builders to use outside and management have said they are told to use this. My builder can't expect me to pay for expensive toilets and not hand them over new. This isn't my only peeve with my builder, it is one on a long long list. Because I have yet to get the keys I am not listing every stuff up. Re: Fed up with my builder - now crapping in my toilets 10Dec 16, 2015 9:28 pm It's a toilet. Thousands of dumps will be taken in it. Move on, there are more important things to worry about. Re: Fed up with my builder - now crapping in my toilets 12Dec 16, 2015 11:40 pm I think you need to move on from the toilet, gross as it is, it can be cleaned. They are walking on your floor too, using the doors, using the taps, etc, are they also no longer new and should be replaced? I think its a case of pick your battles. You need to move on from the toilet issue, there is no way your builder is going to replace them, that's a bit over the top! As said above you need to move on from it, I was upset this is how our toilets were treated but now we are in the house it's not something you think about...just clean it again when you move in if you don't trust the builders cleaners job. That's what we did. Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Re: Fed up with my builder - now crapping in my toilets 14Dec 17, 2015 1:28 am Yep agree that it is messy and not what should happen but it does happen. No way will they be replaced or refunded. If you took them to court the toilets would be cleaned spottlessly and you would not know the difference. They are new only when in the box, as soon as they are installed they are no longer new. Focus on the bigger build issues, by all means be pi$$ed off but stay focused on the bigger issues. Good luck. Re: Fed up with my builder - now crapping in my toilets 15Dec 17, 2015 2:13 am Trust me there are bigger issues. This was the icing on the cake. Bigger issues - house often left unlocked at the end of the day and my build is nearing completion, site a mess, holes in walls for no reason, upgrades being missed and the list goes on. Don't get me started on the countless delays and stuff ups before the build even commenced. And a site manager who isn't noticing any of this and is as blasé as they come. As I said, we all have different expectations and standards. This is a place where many of us come to vent, not to be told to move on. What bugs me may not bug you and vice versa. We're all different. Re: Fed up with my builder - now crapping in my toilets 16Dec 17, 2015 2:22 am archetto Once cleaned you would never know. That's what we did. agreed! This is what toilets are designed for, so how long does a toilet stay new even if the tradies don't use it? Not long after you move in anyway. Toilets can be cleaned, they are not being damaged by being used so I doubt your builder will replace/refund for them. Have you ever rented a house? those toilets have been used by plenty of people. Have you ever lived with multiple people? same thing. Just be thankful the toilets were connected up when they were used and your builder had a portaloo on site, or else you would likely have had tradies crapping in your closets or yard instead, yep, it happens a lot. Move on, it's a toilet, nothing more, and hopefully it will be properly cleaned before handover. Re: Fed up with my builder - now crapping in my toilets 17Dec 17, 2015 2:30 am Jojeke Trust me there are bigger issues. This was the icing on the cake. As I said, we all have different expectations and standards. This is a place where many of us come to vent, not to be told to move on. What bugs me may not bug you and vice versa. We're all different. This is why you have a pre handover inspection and a warranty, noticing every little thing along the way (which in reality are likely to be fixed before handover regardless) achieves nothing, and delays and errors are part and parcel of building. People are telling you to move on, because it's unlikely a builder will replace perfectly working toilets just because it has an ick factor for you, so you may need to realistically adjust your expectations. Re: Fed up with my builder - now crapping in my toilets 18Dec 17, 2015 5:05 am to me this is appalling. you're excited to live at your brand new home then find this. a toilet is something personal and the fact that they put a portaloo on site confirms that. it's sad really that people are forced to accept this "norm". Re: Fed up with my builder - now crapping in my toilets 19Dec 17, 2015 9:44 am I have an opposing view to this also even though you may not like to hear it. My view is that i want my home to be as inviting as i can for the trades that are assisting with our build. I hope to make their job as comfortable as possible. If that means they are doing their business inside than outside than that's that. Good luck with your build and take your bleach with you on handover. Agreed, Realise this might just be the straw that broke the camel's back, but at the end of the day there are far worse issues for some of the builds on this forum, including structural / safety stuff. As long as the toilet is cleaned before handover, moot point for me. This is the current bathroom with a european laundry.
