Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 01, 2015 10:42 pm I am hoping someone can provide some information. We are building a battle axe block in the Newcastle NSW area and need to organise NBN to our block, i know we have NBN to the street. Who do i contact to get it run to our block? Want to get this done whilst the trench is dug for other services. Our electrician doesn't do it. They'd be able to give you the number I'm sure. I'm surprised your sparky couldn't give you the right contact number/ Google would have given you this info... http://www.nbnco.com.au/connect-home-or ... eIjMbUu8kC Stewie Re: NBN extension to battle axe block 3Dec 02, 2015 9:06 am mim_feher I am hoping someone can provide some information. Ask them to run a conduit with a lead in string from the pit to your house, the sparky should be able to do that aleast. Have you got a NBN package with the builder as you will need a cabinet in your garage\somewhere for the termination device to live? If not you will need that. Once complete, go to http://www.nbnco.com.au/develop-or-plan ... quest.html and fill out the request form. This will then have the NBNco pull the fibre to your house, terminate it and hook it up to a NTD (Network Termination Device). Once teh NTD is installed and active you can contact an ISP to hook up the internet and it takes about 6 hours to provision, you will need a router though as an ADSL modem doesnt work with the NBN. For an ISP I recommend SkyMesh, an Aussie company that has no lock in contracts. https://www.skymesh.net.au/ Re: NBN extension to battle axe block 4Dec 02, 2015 9:12 am When i asked about the NBN he said that they can use the phone line as a guide wide to allow it to be through, does this sound right? We aren't getting NBN through the builder however have it marked as a future provision in the garage, as it was over 2000 through the builder. There are now two varieities of NBN, fibre to the home (FTTH or FTTP) and fibre to the node (FTTN) Fibre to the home means as it says the fibre comes into your home. A termination box will be mounted on your wall and then during install they will install a NTD inside the house. In laymans terms the NTD is the NBN modem. It can go anywhere they can get the cable to (except we rooms). You don't need a cabinet, but it does make it neater, so if going new build the advice above re cabinet is sound. Fibre to the node, essentially means the fibre runs to a street cabinet and from there is uses a good old telephone cable to your home. Bit lilke ADSL today, except it is VDSL. As to what you have it could be a lottery, as the Newcastle area is one of the FTTN trial areas. So suggest you go to this website: http://www.mynbn.info/map Look at your address, click on the letter for your area and see on the left what the rollout type says. It could be fibre to the node or fibre to the home. Re: NBN extension to battle axe block 6Dec 02, 2015 8:18 pm so it showing fibre to the node which is unfortinate as I thought fibre to the home would give the best results. I wonder if we are able to request fibre to the home when doing a new install? But believe down the track you can ask for fibre at your costs. But the word on street is $10k+ Depending upon how far and hard to run it. Places that will get FTTH are greenfields developments of 100+ homes or where the developer contracts NBN or another provider (Like Opticom) to provide fibre at the developers cost. Re: NBN extension to battle axe block 8Dec 02, 2015 9:00 pm wow that is a crazy amount of money, fiber to the node it is then.
