Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 01, 2015 8:58 am We've decided to go 2700mm ceilings at the last minute, and we're definitely having 2340mm high sliding doors along the front of the house (where the view is). Kitchen windows will also be at 2340. Windows are going to be aluminum and I am going to make the non-sliding doors myself with some help. I know the general consensus from reading other threads here is usually to go 2340 doors and window heads for 2700 and keep it consistent through the house....but what about for a house with a layout and style like this? It is fairly basic/traditional style house locally - rough sawn weatherboards, colorbond roof, timber veranda posts etc. (see pic). Would 2340 sliding doors, 2340 windows, and then standard 2040 doors everywhere else look okay?? There really aren't any other windows on the ground floor. Upstairs all doors/windows will be 2040. This is roughly the style of the house we intend to build Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Here is a rough 3D sketch of what it will look like from the outside Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ 3D internal view Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Your thoughts on door/window heights in this house 2Dec 01, 2015 9:52 am I prefer the look of the 2040 doors leading into the rooms with higher 2700 ceilings and higher window heads. I think it accentuates the ceiling height plus also provides an element of cosiness. We recently walked through a new build near us with 2700 ceilings and 2400 doors and windows. The doors looked narrow, especially when in some wet areas where they'd only used 620mm wide doors ![]() Re: Your thoughts on door/window heights in this house 3Dec 01, 2015 11:43 am We are personally going for 2340 doors throughout to match window height or be close to. We also will be having all doors no smaller then 820 wide so the doors do not look to narrow. I think it come down to personal preference. We are building out in the country amongst the trees and want to have the home as open as possible ![]() Re: Your thoughts on door/window heights in this house 4Dec 01, 2015 8:07 pm Good point Beazley and ica - the exterior door in the kitchen is a narrow one as is to be only 620mm wide, I guess it will look pretty silly if it is extra tall. Then again, it is right next to the kitchen windows which we want to make 2400 high. Maybe this will look odd too? What to do... Thank you so much for your reply!
