Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 18, 2015 10:48 am I'm renovating but know I'll get a bigger audience here. ? Trying to decide whether to put the fridge inside or outside the pantry and would like to hear the pros and cons from people who have done it. Thanks in advance... Re: Fridge in pantry or not? 2Nov 18, 2015 11:33 am I haven't done it, but I will be doing it (our build starts next year). I like the idea as it hides the fridge away (and all of the stuff we tend to stick to the front of it) and is with all of the rest of the food. My blog: tashandpaul.wordpress.com Re: Fridge in pantry or not? 3Nov 18, 2015 11:41 am I was going to do this but I like the look of our fridge plus want easy access to the water/ice dispenser. Just be mindful that fridges produce heat so you want enough space around the fridge so the heat produced doesn't affect your pantry foods Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Re: Fridge in pantry or not? 4Nov 18, 2015 11:42 am OH has banned fridge, sink & microwave from being in the pantry in our build - which makes sense IMO. If you follow the golden triangle rule for kitchens and think about how often you go to the fridge during prep and cooking, how much further away will it be? Will you have to open the pantry door to get into the pantry and then the fridge? How far do you currently have to walk from prep space to fridge right now? Also, will you be doing your prep in the main kitchen, or in a butlers pantry? Our pantry is purely a pantry, although my espresso machine will live in there, as well as the toaster - as they're only used on weekends. Re: Fridge in pantry or not? 5Nov 18, 2015 12:39 pm We are a month or two off house completion. The Hudson from Simonds. We decided to place the fridge in Butler's pantry but it has a large workbench, lots of power points, a microwave, double bowl sink and a window also in there. It has all needed for food preparation. The fridge space in the kitchen's original design so we turned it into a large double door pantry cupboard. Where the fridge is in the Butler's pantry, it has only a wall between it and the pantry cupboard we made in the fridge space in the kitchen so the switch of location from the original plan is fairly minor. Re: Fridge in pantry or not? 6Nov 18, 2015 1:26 pm We are putting ours in the pantry. We have a large WIP and want a large double door fridge which is quite deep. It was going to take up too much room in the actual kitchen plus when my hubby and kids want to get to it they don't have to annoy me in the kitchen Re: Fridge in pantry or not? 7Nov 18, 2015 3:50 pm Our main fridge will be in the kitchen but we would like it to be integrated (like how they do it in Europe) if we can so the kitchen will look seamless. We have another fridge for drinks and one that is freezer fridge so they will go to our walk-in pantry. Owner Builders in boot-shaped Yorke Peninsula : viewtopic.php?f=38&t=80264& Fridge in pantry or not? 8Nov 18, 2015 5:51 pm After much thought We moved ours out of pantry and into kitchen much preferred the extra shelving. We made the fridge void wider to fit double and requested bulkhead above so it didn't look to much of an eye sore. Unfortunately our pantry WIP is small but Kitchen is large. Planning on installing pull out pantries after handover to gain even more storage. I would've preferred a fridge in pantry, nice to close the cavity door and not see anything Re: Fridge in pantry or not? 9Nov 18, 2015 8:05 pm also a point to think about. You can only get a fridge wide enough to fit through the WIP door. if later on you need a bigger fridge due to more kids or them growing up it limits the ones you can get. I had a similar issue with my fridge not too long ago. It wasn't the same model, but the symptoms were pretty much the same: the compressor would start and then stop… 3 7522 Basically.
