Will give you a good understanding of the form and how it might work. As for rendering to understand material, you have pay big $$ to get something to look like the real thing. I use sketch up everyday and sit with clients with images of materials. By this point we have usually had many discussion about the material that might work best for them. We then limit it to about a selection 2-3 for the various finishes and get samples from the suppliers. We sit then side by side and look at them in the flesh. Another tip while doing this get the largest sample as you can. various materials look very different when you see it at full scale. I'm trying to create them from scratch and find it really difficult. I don't yet have the CAD of the final plans, but will get them next week. Re: 3D Internal drawings - were they worth it? 23Dec 04, 2015 4:03 pm I'm unsure whether David uses Sketchup solely to draw his plans but like most CAD programs it will import Autocad .dwg and.dxf files - 2D and 3D pretty easily. He may be drawing in another program then exporting to Sketchup to do his visualisations and presentations to clients. You need to find out from your designer what she can export them as but I'd imagine those two formats would be on the list. I'd also imagine that he would be using Sketchup Pro ( $600) vs the free version and you would be able to import/export more file types. Stewie 3D Internal drawings - were they worth it? 25Dec 04, 2015 4:59 pm PVBuild Love it, Charley. You going to use your window near the sink as a handout point to the BBQ-er? Our BBQ is just to the right, so having a sliding window + flyscreen there. Got the idea off Decka on here. TomCat, reckon I might turn all my drawings into a book just to document our process after we (eventually) finish the build. Have iterated about... at least 25 variations of the plan, and everything done by hand. Faster and easier for me, and keeps me occupied whilst the OH watches gory tv series... Not the walking dead!? My husband watches that. I love your drawings.. Clever. I could never do such a thing. I sketched ours out to show the kitchen place what I wanted and it looked terrible! But got the idea across. We found the kitchen tricky with layout as its all so open but the walls are not close to even in length. We have a similarish kitchen except it's all drawers under. The L is a bit elongated so we also have a bit of bench out from the dishwasher. Plan to put the coffee machine there as it's just a bit of extra space really. It will be nearer to the TV and lounge so figure that's nice and convenient of course you'd still need to wander down the other end for the milk.. I wanted drawers in the island and room to sit so nothing under it except drawers. On topic we got some basic renders included from the cabinet makers . You need to buy the render plugin and it is can be very expensive. I've used SU before a few times but never rendered anything with it. SU Podium ( the render plugin ) is $198 but you also need to get the PAID content ( ($59) as well for all the image and model libraries. I'll keep using my CAD program. And would the landscaper/contractor generally involve the engineer or is that something the client would do?
