Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 13, 2015 7:48 am Hi, I would like to hear what experiences people had when did their own tiling after handover, especially around kitchen islands and gap between barroom floors and the rest of the house. We are at present thinking of porclain tiles. This means that the floor will be approximately 35 mm higher due to screeding etc. our SS calculated the impact and he reckons that the dishwasher under the island bench won't fit in if we were to tile under the dishwasher and if we didn't then the door will not open. Anu ideas? 23/06/2014 - Paid deposit 21/07/2014 - ordered the survey and tender 13/08/2014 - soils test sample taken 14/08/2014 - survey done today 30/08/2014 - Pre-color consultant aptmnt Re: Tiling after handover project home. 2Nov 13, 2015 9:59 am vivmak Hi, I would like to hear what experiences people had when did their own tiling after handover, especially around kitchen islands and gap between barroom floors and the rest of the house. Anu ideas? How flat is your slab? Is it rough and bumpy? Has the tiler recommended a screed? We had our rectified tiles laid directly on our slab by the builder only due to the main floor tiles being used in the toilet which the builder laid. If we waited until after hand over to do the rest then the batches would be different resulting in a possible difference in colour. Re: Tiling after handover project home. 3Nov 13, 2015 5:42 pm It is not rough at all but the builder's tiling company doesn't want to do without screeding for tiles bigger than or equal to 600x600. Our bathroom tiles will certainly be different to main areas. 23/06/2014 - Paid deposit 21/07/2014 - ordered the survey and tender 13/08/2014 - soils test sample taken 14/08/2014 - survey done today 30/08/2014 - Pre-color consultant aptmnt Re: Tiling after handover project home. 4Nov 13, 2015 5:43 pm Did they put kitchen on tiled floor or did they tile after kitchen was installed 23/06/2014 - Paid deposit 21/07/2014 - ordered the survey and tender 13/08/2014 - soils test sample taken 14/08/2014 - survey done today 30/08/2014 - Pre-color consultant aptmnt Re: Tiling after handover project home. 5Nov 17, 2015 9:36 am vivmak Did they put kitchen on tiled floor or did they tile after kitchen was installed Tiled after kitchen was in. Call a few tilers and ask their professional opinion to see if screed is needed for larger tiles. We used 300 x 600 tiles which would the tiler to make slight adjustments when laying to compensate for uneven floor. With 600 x 600 that cant be achieved so perhaps that's where the screed is needed. Although the builder should have known that at selection and advised. Re: Tiling after handover project home. 6Nov 19, 2015 6:41 pm Thanks Gunna. We changed flooring after signing contract. At the moment SS is the only person responding office is not even acknowledging emails. 23/06/2014 - Paid deposit 21/07/2014 - ordered the survey and tender 13/08/2014 - soils test sample taken 14/08/2014 - survey done today 30/08/2014 - Pre-color consultant aptmnt Hi all, Been browsing project builders' website and saw Masterton with attached granny flat design Seeing bad reviews from masterton in this website/facebook, does… 0 18300 Any advice on a builder in NSW who is demanding an extra 22000k after the house is completed and contract paid in full .Standard HIA contract.
