Going to message you through building inspector details soon when kids are in bed! Re: JG King modified Heywood - Carpet 83Jun 04, 2016 1:08 pm Not much else happened late this week. They were digging a hole in the nature strip near our place Friday, that seems to be filled in now. Topsoil mostly spread but still a few piles around. Blocks were pegged out at one point but pegs were removed before concreting, so I guess we're waiting on them and street signs. A photo from the top of the hill today. That section was lodged for titles yesterday, so won't be too long until the tradies are in there to wreck it. It was looking a bit yellow today after a few frosty mornings. I ride along the river from Newtown and even mid morning it has still been white in places this week. It's going to be a cool spot I think. Re: JG King modified Heywood - Carpet 87Jun 10, 2016 10:56 am Firstly for anyone who hasn't sorted their stone, kings now have stone samples in the old size, which are much better! We decided to go to Tulla Laminex yesterday to see the bigger samples (approx 300x900, plus a couple on display benches) anyway. Our first thought when we got there was that we had wasted our time! The lady wasn't very nice or helpful (she improved by the end), the lighting was even worse than kings, and they still don't have most of them labelled! I was able to identify most of them pretty quickly, including white concrete which they had marked as Saint Moritz Matt, but they have no interest in working them out, kept saying someone is supposed to come and do it for them. Seriously given an hour I would have had them all sorted, but they just don't care. Anyway we eventually zeroed in on Saint Moritz Gloss which is very similar to the white concrete, just a bit whiter and gloss, so should be easier to care for. It has very fine specks so it's not completely plain like crystalite (which is def too yellow) and it seems to be the best with our tile. She thought we could go calcite or St moritz in the bathrooms, probably slightly leaning towards st Moritz, but calcite is fine if we wanted to save some money. I explained that we started the day prepared to drop $3600 on white concrete in the kitchen, so we've already saved 2k today! She laughed at my crazy economics Yesterday I was leaning towards st moritz throughout (including laundry if we can catch our contract drawings in time, they are at drafting currently), looking at the photos I still like calcite with the dark bathroom tile so I'm going to take the weekend to think about it. I'd love any opinions! And change to the silk finish white so it matches the kitchen. When I made my 1 billionth trip to the laundry this morning I suddenly realised I shouldn't be cheaping out on a room I spend so much of my time in, seriously the difference on the bottom cupboards will be about $50. Great pictures the st moritz looks great. Makes me feel a bit better about the calcite too. Our Build Thread - JG king Memphis Re: JG King modified Heywood - the stone dilemma 89Jun 10, 2016 12:50 pm Yes the bigger pieces of the Calcite are lighter and more in line with the old new crystal salt. I thought you guys would be happier with it now . It could be just a batch thing, but all three larger pieces we saw were lighter, so hopefully they were still perfecting the recipe, and the early sample kings got is just a bit off. Re: JG King modified Heywood - the stone dilemma 90Jun 10, 2016 1:19 pm ooooh, you are doing an all white kitchen too! I love all white! I think the St Moritz looks gorgeous!! For the bathrooms either looks great but if you have the extra dollars to spend i think i'd go the St Moritz in there too hehe. I think the calcite looks great for the laundry, especially if you are able to change to dark cupboards overhead Re: JG King modified Heywood - the stone dilemma 91Jun 10, 2016 1:34 pm kylz4 ooooh, you are doing an all white kitchen too! I think the calcite looks great for the laundry, especially if you are able to change to dark cupboards overhead Haha not quite! I'm actually being a bit rebellious in the kitchen and using 3 colours! Our pantry bank is battalion (same as the dark in the laundry pics, overheads are sublime teak, bench, lower cupboards and splash back are all white. Sort of a colour blocking look I guess. I didn't have the swatches quite in the pic because they won't actually be near the stone. Believe me I've had my moments where I've considered a complete flip to all white! Still no word on if it is too late to change to stone in the laundry. Re: JG King modified Heywood - the stone dilemma 92Jun 10, 2016 2:12 pm Oh haha, I contemplated a light timber like sublime teak for overheads but decided to stick to all white as I have the warmth from the floorboards. I think with the tiling on your floor you've made a good call with the teak overheads Re: JG King modified Heywood - the stone dilemma 93Jun 10, 2016 3:30 pm That was our thinking exactly, all white looks great with a timber floor. Stone in the laundry is a go! We had a quick visit with the colour girl and admin, and have gone with St moritz throughout! Laundry is polar white silk on the bottom and battalion on the top. I just need to sign the new doc and send it back! Drawings are due back next wednesday. Re: JG King modified Heywood - the stone dilemma 94Jun 10, 2016 4:08 pm Awesome to the go ahead!! Doesn't it feel so good knowing that you are getting what you want when you want a change! After you e made the call in your head it feels so wrong to not have it changed lol Re: JG King modified Heywood - the stone dilemma 98Jun 11, 2016 9:17 am Yes all double glazed except the glass doors which are low e. We are also orientated as well we could be in our land release, our long side is just a bit off North. So in theory we should be good but we did add glass and North eave so who knows Re: JG King modified Heywood - the stone dilemma 100Jun 11, 2016 4:33 pm I really really love your floor tile! I cant wait to see photos when its laid! I agree with your stone choice too it looks great. Im glad to hear calcite comes back a bit more like new crystal salt. Im never going to know if it was the right decision until its done so ive just accepted it. Exciting to be getting your drawings back, you really are getting so close to building I would never build with Fowler homes. I built with them in 2021 and till date maintenance issues are pending.
