Browse Forums Building A New House Re: JG King modified Heywood - Handover! 1401Dec 17, 2017 7:13 am bank There was much debate about where to put the wreath on an asymmetrical door! Priorities right? Lol. I'm hoping we will be moving in the weekend before christmas, so don't think we will bother with a tree this year, our kids are teenagers so don't think it really bothers them either way. I just hate packing up the tree, so not sure it will be worth it for only a few days. We ended up somewhere between centre of the door and centre of the solid bit. https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?share_ ... are_type=t Re: JG King modified Heywood - Handover! 1406Dec 17, 2017 9:08 am trimum I love your facade I know I’ve said it before but it’s really stunning! Thanks I'm happy to hear it as many times as you want to say it! I'm pretty stoked with it too! I think it needs a bigger wreath though! https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?share_ ... are_type=t JG King modified Heywood - Handover! 1407Dec 17, 2017 9:10 am KatrinaH I love that you only have camp chairs in the house, but the christmas tree is already set up. Ours are 12 and 13 but still disappointed when we didn't put it up first weekend in December, so I said we would do it straight away in the new house. I sure as hell wasn't going to put it up twice Good luck getting in before Christmas! https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?share_ ... are_type=t Re: JG King modified Heywood - Handover! 1408Dec 17, 2017 9:36 am Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Princesssarrah06 We got our change of occupancy this morning, then an hour later the final invoice. Lunchtime we signed form for release of final payment and handed to bank. Chris was told 'we want you in by thursday' (next week) but we can't do handover until builder is paid, (or atleast confirmation from bank). Have you made your final payment? can't believe we are both nearly there! No but we have the cheque in hand, picked it up today. Requested payment last Friday, inspection was done Monday and got a text to say it was ready last night (Wednesday). It doesn't feel real to me! It's going to be bizarre when our SS leaves and we stay. It feels like you only just started! We're both going to have a busy Christmas! --> We couldn't organise our bank earlier because they wouldn't release the final invoice till change of occupancy etc so fingers crossed we hear back from them soon, someone at the bank said to Chris that they were busy with people wanting to hand over so they weren't sure how long it would take. Even if we don't have payment by Thursday, the builder will handover if we get like an sms/email confirmation of some sort that it has been handed in and will be paid. I love those sheer curtains they look fantastic, are they in your bedroom? The double roller curtains is what we will get for our bedrooms, although I haven't quite decided if I want sheers in my bedroom or not yet or just the double rollers. I see you have 'white' and 'white' for your rollers, I haven't decided whether I want dark blackout curtains, or atleast mid grey or stick with white. I don't think I want black/dark. How were your first couple of nights? How exciting a whole week to get organised before xmas! Are you not moving until Monday? I think we will probably get our mattresses out and sleep on the floor as we will only have the weekend to move and won't get much done as we will still be working. Anyway congratulations on actually getting there! I was starting to think we were going to beat you! Re: JG King modified Heywood - Handover! 1409Dec 17, 2017 2:51 pm Eee! Your Chrissy tree is huge! And very lovely. So excited your in before Christmas. What did the defect list end up looking like? Did they fix everything you asked them to? Re: JG King modified Heywood - Handover! 1410Dec 18, 2017 2:54 pm bank Sealing the grout just helps it resist staining. I'm using stuff Beaumonts recommended, I never got around to doing my own research so just went with what they said. I'm about to apply it with applicator bottles from bunnings. I'll let you know how they go, Beaumonts said to use a tiny paintbrush. Worst bit is the grout needs to be clean first . So I spent all morning on my knees cleaning it by hand. It didn't look too bad but it's amazing how much brown came off it! Then I vacuumed and mopped with vinegar and water. Anyway congratulations on actually getting there! I was starting to think we were going to beat you! Yes curtain is in bedroom as it faces the street. We would like to eventually put them in the family and dining as well. Although I'm having second thoughts as I do like seeing outside, with all the big windows it feels so big, it would be a lot of money just to have them open all the time. I went a light colour so they weren't a feature. It worked! We were standing around the island doing handover for ages before I spotted them . Colour is called Pure, it's a very light grey similar to our walls, they come up lighter in photos. The sunscreen part in the living and minor bedrooms are white/grey, I'm very happy with this choice although I do wonder if I should have pushed for the more open weave. We just camped for the first weekend so that I could get the grout sealed before we moved in. It would have been an impossible task to do after furniture. We got everything moved Monday but very little is unpacked so it's chaos! We spent half of yesterday cleaning the rental half here getting dishwasher and internet sorted. Last night we had grade six graduation and we couldn't even find the iron for my husbands shirt . https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?share_ ... are_type=t Re: JG King modified Heywood - Handover! 1413Dec 20, 2017 7:36 am aloenyx Eee! Your Chrissy tree is huge! And very lovely. So excited your in before Christmas. What did the defect list end up looking like? Did they fix everything you asked them to? I think everything except the capping on the front has or is being addressed. They were still saying that the CM was talking to the roofing plumbers at PCI but we knew it wasn't going to go anywhere. We're at peace with it, we agreed with our inspector to just put it on his report so that there was a record that they were told about it in case of any issues in the future. There we a bunch of minor things at handover outstanding and amazingly they are getting ticked off!! Done so far are: cleaning, dishwasher, scratches on kitchen window, surge protection, removing the retaining wall has started but not yet finished. Still to come are: driveway sealing, paint touch ups on facade, finishing the retaining wall, loose step from garage. Issues we have found since handover are: one door lock has the wrong barrel, the tile that was replaced to do the new bath has the wrong grey grout, one ensuite tap is sitting on a funny angle, rangehood is making a flappy sound, dishwasher sticks out because of the power conduit behind (should have been in the void or the plumber said the kicker would have also worked), and Monday night with 6 people showering and using the toilet the sewer backed up ! It's been ok since but obviously there is a blockage somewhere despite our pipes supposedly being camera-ed during construction. Oh they forgot to get us to sign the power form so it's still not in our name (quick use all the power ) and the bank cheque wasn't signed by the bank . Which is funny because hubby commented that the guy at the cheque window looked prepubescent and he thought it seemed like a lot of responsibility for a kid . Our SS came yesterday to get the power form and is dealing with all these issues now rather than leaving the non urgent ones until 3 months, I think he feels responsible for handing it over not quite there. He has been our best SS by far! It's helped that he fresh and keen to prove himself. Poor bunnies are scared of their new home. They've gone from a jungle to a dust bowl . We moved them yesterday and kept them inside until the cool change came. They were just starting to get comfortable inside when we moved them outside. They're under the alfresco for the moment until we can make them a flat spot for their hutch. Grout sealer is from Beaumonts (cheaper elsewhere), lithofin stain stop and I applied it with a roller bottle from bunnings. Very easy but tough crawling around on the hard floor for hours! Takes 5 days to be fully effective but seems pretty amazing already from a couple of marks I've wiped off. Re: JG King modified Heywood - Handover! 1416Dec 20, 2017 8:02 am We're going to stay at the new house today and try and get things a bit more sorted then we'll go back and finish cleaning the rental tomorrow. So far, despite the mess everywhere (this is starting to do my head in) and the teething problems, I'm loving it . We have no air con yet, but even with 2 hot days (38 yesterday) the house has stayed remarkably cool! We have come from a Victorian cottage so not much to compare to, but there is a lot to be said to correct orientation, appropriate eaves and cross flow ventilation! Probably need to get the aircon sorted before a big heat wave though! Surely it would eventually heat up! https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?share_ ... are_type=t Re: JG King modified Heywood - Handover! 1417Dec 20, 2017 8:29 am bank aloenyx Eee! And the kitchen cupboards (mostly latches on overheads) still need adjusting. I did have one final dig about the capping when our SS handed over the compliance certificate for the roof plumbing "what for our non compliant "box gutter"? ". I said with a laugh and he nervously laughed back https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?share_ ... are_type=t Re: JG King modified Heywood - Handover! 1418Dec 20, 2017 2:02 pm Nico What is the deal with the surge protector is that a standard or something you asked for? Something we asked for. I asked for surge protected power points for my office and the electrical girl suggested we just put in on the whole house at the meter box. From memory it was less than $200. But when it came to it none of our supervisors had ever heard of it and it took me repeated attempts to convince them that what we paid for wasn't there. Apparently it was right on the bottom of the purchase order so the electricians missed it . I know it had been on the list of stuff they missed a couple of times so not sure why it took until late handover day for it to be done. https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?share_ ... are_type=t Re: JG King modified Heywood - Handover! 1419Dec 20, 2017 7:39 pm Sounds like your very happy Glad to hear they are getting to issues quickly. They would only be photos of absolute chaos! We made a fair bit of progress today (we're actually sleeping with proper linen tonight instead of sleeping bags ) but there is a seemingly endless amount of things to get done. Several things are still missing such as the iron and the ear thermometer! How about first use of my ovens!
