Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 10, 2015 4:52 pm Hi everyone,
I open this thread to share the progress of the construction of my first house in Melbourne. The house is built in North-East Melbourne on a sloping block. The 50sq house will be sitting on the strip footing, brick support piers with timber subfloor. As my house just start one month ago, I will skip the excavation and strip footing stage. I start from the timber subfloors and will try to upload as much as photos as I can. Hope you guys can give your ideas, opinions on the progress. I do suggest even though you have gone past the excavation stage it would be a good idea to post them either on your blog or before these pics so we get the full scope of your build. EDIT: Also why are they using two types of bricks as per your first photo. Is your place going to be rendered? 'It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog.' If you look at my blog, you can see the strip footing in the first few posts. the brick is not of the matter as they will be rendered with acrylic (if I got it right). Thus, the brick workmanship could be forgivable. It look great when it is rendered. Your house is massive!! Looking forward to see your house comes to live. Thank you. I went to the display home in Balwyn and love their plan as French style. Hope the quality is good and there is no drama during the whole progress. Re: Building with Metricon in North-east Melbourne 8Nov 11, 2015 7:37 am Bordeaux is a grand home . IMO the mortar needs to be strong and well built. I was looking at the gaps within your mortar and thats a concern. Maybe others on here can give better advice. Today, the roof frame is nearly done. Roof tiles will be laid next week, and then plumbing pipe will be installed (told by supervisor). This is the completion of stage two. Time taken to complete stage 2 is roughly 1.5months. Stage 3 will start next week and estimated finish date is end of Jan included 2 weeks xmas break. I will be away during this time. So, I guess I can't take the photos of stage 3. Hopefully, the exterior stuffs finish soon so rain doesn't cause any problems. Here are the pics. everyone feel free to share your comments. Looking great, but I saw a few holes mistakenly drill in the the upper floor joists. Overall, it's alright. 2 Solar panels also fitted the the left of the roof for hot water use.
