As long as we keep our outside front light on and the hall lights off you can't see in at all. Something the sales lady also said to us was that lighter coloured doors offer more privacy than darker, if the doors are dark, the eye sees past the door and right into the room, if it's light it distracts the eye and you can't see in at all. I can post pics of ours if you're interested (I put frosting on our sidelight). Can I ask why you would put a door to the outside in the ensuite? I don't think I've seen that before so I'm curious! I must look like a bit of a crazy person sitting here muttering the different pronunciations of Truganina to myself haha! I saw the picture of your keys in the front door on your thread, and I'm thinking ours is a pretty similar colour. Do you remember what colour it's called? Ours will be painted surfmist to match the windows. I'm really not sure about the door, we didn't put one in, it was one of the fusion options, with a double vanity which we didn't want either. But the bedroom already has a door to the alfresco.. Maybe it's so there's lots of ventilation? I just imagine it's more glass to clean! we put a cavity sliding door from the ensuite to the bedroom though for privacy, haha Building Simonds Hudson viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80646 Re: Building Simonds Hudson in Warrnambool Vic 63Apr 05, 2016 2:04 pm Halcyon I must look like a bit of a crazy person sitting here muttering the different pronunciations of Truganina to myself haha! BUT the security door we got is paper bark. It doesn't match 100% but it's pretty close (there were like 3 colours that were hard to choose between, they were all so close). The door people we went with had a bunch of different colours to choose from - I'm assuming most places would and they all seemed to be colourbond colours. We wanted our door more for privacy than security, the super heavy duty security ones this company has only comes in black mesh (which doesn't work for privacy). The bathroom will be nice and bright at least! You could always put frosting on the bottom 3/4 or something too. Definitely a good idea to have a door between the bedroom and the ensuite, I would hate not having a door! I even kind of wish we had a door/pocket slider for the WIR. Just looking at your site plan - if it's not too late it might be worth pushing the whole house back on the block half a meter or so just to increase the length of the driveway so you don't end up with cars parked onto the footpath; obviously you'll sacrifice a small area of your back yard as a result, but it'll also move your front rooms further from the footpath and give a little more room for your planter/landscaping. Keep in mind also that the open plan nature of your M P R will mean you can't catch any peace and quiet in there if your OH is watching something on TV; that was a big concern for us as so many display homes we walked into we realised you wouldn't be able to escape - some of the builders made it even more obvious by putting different content on the two tvs in adjoining spaces so you could really witness them clashing. Re: Building Simonds Hudson in Warrnambool Vic 65Apr 05, 2016 10:47 pm Damn, I think it is a bit late now I might just ask about it anyway, you never know. They did that in the display we visited, had the two TV's running and playing the same thing but there was a few seconds delay between them and it drove me nuts haha. The OH often plays computer games with friends so he uses headphones 90% of the time, luckily we don't watch much TV. The double doors on the theatre room (like in the display) were a good idea but I liked the alcove, and now I'm just not sure what to do with it haha Building Simonds Hudson viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80646 Re: Building Simonds Hudson in Warrnambool Vic 66Apr 06, 2016 8:29 pm You might be able to get a good full height sliding or folding door system installed after handover if it proves to be an issue (or to assist with resale in the future) - the excessively open plan movement is the in-thing at the moment but I feel people will start getting sick of fighting for a quiet space (this is why we've put double cavity sliders to our theatre room - so it can be closed off from the other living space) Re: Building Simonds Hudson in Warrnambool Vic 67Apr 08, 2016 7:13 pm More block pics. Re: Building Simonds Hudson in Warrnambool Vic 71Apr 18, 2016 11:40 pm Any changes yet? I swung by my block tonight and noticed the next stage of wollaston way is likely to be hotmixed tomorrow; it stinks terribly of tar as they've sprayed the layer beneath - I assume so the hotmix has something to bond into the substrate - I feel sorry for the people who are in houses up there now (about 6 or so houses are now occupied!) Some weeks it looks like nothing has been done then other weeks it looks like heaps has happened. I'm also a bit worried we won't have NBN as well, when I look on the NBN map I can see the Russell's Creek estate is highlighted as "planned", and wollaston has "build commenced" but ours (circled in red) has nothing? He works in IT so he's up with all that haha What is the NBN box anyway? Is it a big box or just like a little modem type thing? Pretty sure they said it'll be in the garage. That would suck if you guys can't get NBN. I have no idea why no one could tell us about our estate (like you we are a new section of an existing estate in an established area). So until the NBN gets installed there will just be a wire and a phone port in the garage and then when NBN comes to hook it up you'll get this: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ edit: we just got that power point put in, up until a week and a half ago we had an extension cord across the garage. And you'll get a little thing outside (usually near your fuse box). Because you got the data pack you won't have to worry about where things go, we only have one data point in the garage so our router/etc has to be out there and then everything else is on wifi (the signal is just strong enough to the back of the house). Because we were so quick to get the house built it was about a month from moving in until NBN were ready to hook our neighbourhood up, our neighbours got their box a week or two ago so they'll be ready as soon as they move in. My other half is up with all of that too, he was so frustrated when no one could tell us if we were getting NBN (and then no one had any idea if it was FTTP or FTTN or even what all of that meant haha - we have FTTP which is preferred). We used so much data on our phones A month?! I don't know if I can go a month without internet! what takes so long about it? It was because NBNco weren't ready to install yet/our house was built too quick, our neighbours (who are about a week or two from handover) got theirs installed not long after us so they'll be ready to connect as soon as they move in. So if the NBN people are ready to go on your street you should be able to connect straight away, if not you'll have to wait a bit. If you walk around the estate there should be things on the nature strip that say NBN on them (like electrical pits). It was a loooong month lol We built the Rathdowne with Simonds Express in Western Melbourne Site start Oct. 2015 Keys Jan. 25th, 2015 My build thread -here- Re: Building Simonds Hudson in Warrnambool Vic 80Apr 19, 2016 7:46 pm My understanding is that if your estate has NBN the first person to connect has to pay a provisioning fee ($485 looks to be what Aussie Broadband charge) then that unit is active and any others in that estate can connect easily. I'd be a little worried re your subdivision and NBN because it's such a small subdivision! Especially as telstra aren't installing any copper lines any more (hence the requirement of NBN for new developments) - hopefully you'll get NBN though - at least if you do it'll be FTTP (fibre to the premises) rather than fttn (all of that brown "fixed line building" section of that map will get the bastardised liberal govt faux NBN which is fttn (fibre to the node, basically fibre NBN high speed internet to a box that then supplies a crippled version of NBN to the house via the existing copper infrastructure). If you can jump a fence on the weekend and go for a walk through your subdivision you might get lucky and find some NBN pits (the pit covers will have NBN stamped in them) if they've got that far. It's not the end of the world if you don't have NBN initially - you could always connect to Aussie Broadband's Airmax/Wimax which is decently fast by the backwards internet speeds we currently suffer with (the house I'm in now is a similar distance from the exchange as your new block would be if telstra were still putting in copper lines) - we sync at about 6mbit on DSL2 - Airmax is about 12mbit so not terrible; obviously won't hold a candle to FTTP NBN 100mbit though. I can't wait for my NBN. Hopefully someone else has connected (and provisioned) our estate before we finish our build and need to provision ours!!
