Browse Forums Building A New House Re: building the jg king memphis-trent facade, geelong 123Aug 29, 2016 2:44 pm Is it a dark flooring but with windows etc it will lighten up a bit. I have the same conceren for mine too as i really wanted a lighter floor but didn't want a yellowish flooring. I do really like your floorboards. Have you got lighter or dark furniture because that will all impact on the space. Re: building the jg king memphis-trent facade, geelong 124Aug 29, 2016 2:55 pm That is a concern and ultimately why we decided to go light. We were considering going dark when we stumbled across a display with a dark floor that we had previously seen with a light floor and it felt a lot smaller and darker. The dark one also had 2.55 ceilings and the light had 2.7 and that makes a big difference too so it's hard to know how much of the feeling was due to the floor. Dark also shows the dust and crumbs more. But don't let me turn you off. I do love dark floors! They look gorgeous! We're assuming we will be quite close to our neighbours and could potentially be overshadowed in winter so felt light and bright was best for us. Re: building the jg king memphis-trent facade, geelong 125Aug 29, 2016 8:33 pm Most our furniture is dark at the moment but will slowly be replacing it all with lighter new furniture. Thanks for all the info guys we are really undecided. Dust and crumbs showing are definatley a issue with a 1 year old. We have the higher ceilings and huge open plan floorplan so hopong that wont be a issue. We need to decide soon Re: building the jg king memphis-trent facade, geelong 126Aug 29, 2016 9:19 pm Are you carpeting both the lounge and family rooms? Will you be doing floorboards from entrance through to dining room? A friend of ours did dark floorboards in her house about a year ago and now regrets it as its quite a dark feel to the house. But in saying that we choose a darker floor as our kitchen is white so that woll be the overall feature to the house. Go with your gut and pick a floorboard you are naturally drawn to. I really like the one you've choosen. Re: building the jg king memphis-trent facade, geelong 127Aug 29, 2016 10:13 pm The plan is to floorboard everywhere except the bedrooms and the loungeroom. They will be carpeted. We wete worried about the room being closed in by dark boards but with our kitchen all white as yours is and our walls a white colour we are hopong that the boards will be a feature as you mentioned. Fingers crossed it looks good Re: building the jg king memphis-trent facade, geelong 128Aug 29, 2016 10:21 pm It will be nice to see your family room with floorboards. Much more practical with your back alfresco area so not walking over carpet. We have ours carpeted even though we have those big doors it maybe a curse later on. We are still planning on using the dining room doors as our main entrance to outside as thats were our entertainment area will be.
