Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 27, 2015 10:55 am Hi all, Just wondering if anyone had a shale grey roof and had some pictures of exterior colours you chose. I find it hard to find a decent picture of it, surfmist always pops up or shale grey is a render colour. Im thinking shale grey for roof, gutters and fascia as i think its too light to put a darker grey feature colour on the fascia? Could be wrong. Ive gone a dark render colour feature and a lighter shade elsewhere. all shades of greys. Just torn on whether a dark garage door say e.g. monument or woodland grey would look weird. Colours are as below: Feature render - grey moggy, Rest of front render: secret passage. Roof/gutter/fascia: thinking shale grey all through for matching unless anyone has better ideas Garage door/external front door: thinking monument or woodland grey. Ironstone may be too bluey grey. Reason for the greys was originally had basalt colorbond for roof (dark grey) but as anticon is too pricey by the builder im thinking of leaving it out, and going the light roof and some good fan forced ventilators on the roof combined with the r4 ceiling batts to combat heat for the tenant, and myself if i move in in a few years. I thought the dark grey renders would still work but im abit torn as i beliece shale grey almost looks surfmist light in person in the sun right? Would love more grey however but in sunlight i doubt it. I like a darker garage. As i think it'll look too light overall otherwise but unsure if it'll work as usually the dark feature garage colour is matched by a dark roof?? Thoughts? Photos are on my thread. Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Re: Shale grey colorbond roof colour schemes 5Oct 27, 2015 1:30 pm I think the really dark garage is the thing that will stand out too much. I'd match it more with your feature render colour for balance and perhaps add a lighter colour for your fascia to break it up. The alternative is you do most of the house in one colour and make the portico the feature colour. Re: Shale grey colorbond roof colour schemes 6Oct 27, 2015 1:47 pm Archetto given you've seen your shale grey in person alot can you see the monument garage and entrance door matching the pictures/colours posted above? Otherwise the option may be to go back to just doing the shale grey garage (assuming surfmist is too white given all the grey colour shafes) and I could always do the entrance door a feature dark colour? @d@n do you reckon it would stand out too much, in a bad way? Unfortunately i can only do standard colourbond colours for the garage so i cant match the taubmans grey moggy feature render colour.... So if it is to be lighter theres woodland grey but thats more on the browny side of grey than the grey moggy above? The conservative approach would be a surfmist or a matching shale grey garage door. Just not too sure if shake grey roof, gutters, fascia and garage would be overkill and leave things too boring and plain vanilla looking? Alternatively i just cant visualise the monument dark garage door, its norm a nice colour but with the shale grey roof im not sure? Prob doing gutters or fascis in dark/monument colour wouldn't help this im assuming? Re: Shale grey colorbond roof colour schemes 7Oct 27, 2015 2:09 pm Hi archetto i found some of your pics but thread was too long on my mobile to search- what colour render is that, the dark? Correct me if im wrong but was the rest of the render dune? Fascia dune also? And white eaves? Do you know what colour your gutter was?? Basalt? Trying to work it out but hard from the pics. Really does look light shale grey though in the day! Re: Shale grey colorbond roof colour schemes 8Oct 27, 2015 3:05 pm We have a shale grey roof and gutters, fascias (had the same on first build) didn't have sarking first time and it was a cool house. This time mixing it with woodland grey first time had it with jasper. Pics in thread link. Shale grey is a lovely roof colour...yep I am biased Re: Shale grey colorbond roof colour schemes 9Oct 27, 2015 3:11 pm Our roof is surfmist, the gutters are basalt, the facia is dune, the main render is heifer and the feature render is malay grey, the garage door will be surfmist also. Our fence which butts up to the house will be shale grey and our driveway is silver pavers. Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Re: Shale grey colorbond roof colour schemes 10Oct 27, 2015 3:12 pm Sorry on mobile doesnt show signature thread links. So your woodland grey and jaspet are roof colours? Im thinking of going basalt as the gutters and fascia now than just the guggers as may stand out weirdly. Given your love of shale grey can you see it working? I keep looking at surfmist picd and they look fine as garage doors but when i put it up against the greys in the above pictures in my OP i just cant imagine surfmist. Im thinking shale grey garage doors too. What do you think?? So indecided about this. Great to hear no sarking and your shale grey house stayed cool! Only reason im giving up on the lovely basalt roof i originally had planned Re: Shale grey colorbond roof colour schemes 11Oct 27, 2015 3:14 pm Archetto my pavers would be a grey too! Given your dune fascia matched. If it was more grey render like mine (light grey anyhow) could you visualise your fascia and gutters both being basalt. And still working with the surfmist garage? Would you find a shale grey garage too much overload of shale grey and hence you stuck with surfmist?? I assume your front door is surfmist to match the garage also? Re: Shale grey colorbond roof colour schemes 12Oct 27, 2015 3:59 pm SaberX @d@n do you reckon it would stand out too much, in a bad way? I think so but it can also be personal taste. If you love dark garage doors then go for it. I just don't see any reason to make them stand out. Front doors are different as they are the entry point into the home. Re: Shale grey colorbond roof colour schemes 13Oct 28, 2015 3:13 am I ended up with shale grey roof, gutters and fascia in basalt colourbond like archetto except he had dune colourbond fascia, and the two greys in my op (grey moggy and silver passage). Went with the surfmist.for both garage and front door. Agreed the monument dark coloured garage may be pushing it. Wondering with my basalt gutters and faacia whether it would be weird making it a feature by having the front door also basalt, if not monument? Quitr a few mockup display elevation brochures seem to have the light renders and garage all way round but a dark door. With the only exception is they all typically have a darker.colour roof... So im not sure how.thingd will pan out. I just.discovered Windspray colorbond only about 0.58 solar absorption so it may be a good inbetween my desire to go basalt roof but ended up with light shale grey given the absence of anticon /sarking in my build and therefore potentially heat issues. Dont see much talk about Windspray however. Perhaps people go either dark all the way or the other end of spectrum- light colour like surfmist or shale grey, rather than inbetween? Hopefully making both gutter and fascia basalt isnt to Trippy. Archetto's photos is the closest to visualising it that ive seen bar fascia was a dune. So very nervous how this will play out. Particularly also the dark door Re: Shale grey colorbond roof colour schemes 14Feb 03, 2016 7:58 am SaberX Hi all, Just wondering if anyone had a shale grey roof and had some pictures of exterior colours you chose. In my opinion you dont need to replace or paint the roof other than treat surface rust… 1 10228 You should pressure clean your roof first and make sure the paint you buy also is anti mould. 4 18580 Thank you so much. We ended going with the terrain that’s part of our brick. 2 2543 |
