Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 26, 2015 9:09 pm Hi all, I'm a little surprised to not find more information on here about Montgomery Homes. Has anyone out there either built with Montgomery or thought about building with them, but then changed your mind after your experience with them? We have an appointment for a tender, but I am concerned because this is the first builder that has told us that when we meet for the tender, we have only 24 hours to sign the contract in order to get a rather hefty discount. If we do not sign in 24 hours, then we lose the discount. We also need to give them $7500 after signing. It just seems very high-pressure and not much time to think things over. Does anyone else find this unusual? Why is their business model like this, and don't they think that they will lose potential clients by having such high-pressure tactics or procedures? Have you ever heard of another builder making you sign a contract within 24 hours or else lose many benefits? We know that Montgomery builds nice homes (from what we've seen so far) so we are happy about that, but our concern is that it seems that they can put up the price on you AFTER you sign a contract with them. In other words, it is not a fixed price. We are concerned that our contract price could go up by $20,000 to $40,000... or even worse! Has anyone built with Montgomery and have had the price go up substantially throughout the building process, or did anyone consider Montgomery and get red flags about the contract price not being nailed down? How did others handle this when building with Montgomery to make sure that the price did not go up, if even possible? We have no idea what to expect for the tender appointment with Montgomery, so if anyone out there has tips or advice, or any general experience with Montgomery and can share information then we would really appreciate it. We are in Newcastle, NSW. Cheers Re: *Experience w/ Montgomery even if you chose NOT to build 2Feb 15, 2018 9:30 am Hi. I see that this was quite some time ago so I am curious to know what you ended up doing? Did you build with MH? My husband and I found their high pressure selling too stressful and also heard from others that the price shot up my 10s of thousands after making the $7500 tender payment fee. We reached out to MH, Living Green, Etchels and Wincrest Bespoke to compare. MH seemed the most high pressure and confusing. We have decided to go with Wincrest Bespoke as we have had a fully custom created design made just for us based on our slightly sloping block and wanting living and kitchen upstairs to capitalize on views and our beach breezes. Would love to know who you ended up building with and what the experience has been like. Looking for as many tips as possible going in to our first build.
