Browse Forums Building A New House Re: The building begins....**updated** 61Jan 10, 2009 3:31 pm Wow, looking good! Must be a nice feeling to see it forming before your eyes!!!
Re scratches, guess I'd be disappointed they're there but would you really notice them in the future? I haven't had the building experience yet but am thinking that maybe you need to pick your battles? The white frames look great, whta colour is the render going to be? (or should I read elsewhere in your thread ) Re: The building begins....**updated** 62Jan 10, 2009 4:47 pm It has been such fun reading this thread, and watching your house grow. I have bought a plot .. sorry, block, in Madeley, WA and have signed with a builder. The plan is still with their drafties who are doing the last changes and lighting plan. I have been and chosen my tiles and will await eagerly for my pre-start meeting. I am on the site trying to get tips for my colours. Re: The building begins....**updated** 63Jan 10, 2009 5:52 pm monkeyupatree,
it's great to catch up with the thread. your house is looking great! re: the scratches, if these are deep, then they should be replaced. we had that issue with one of our windows (and it was spotted by our inspector), and because the scratches were deep, they had to replace it. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: The building begins....**updated** 64Jan 22, 2009 3:40 pm The entrance doors are now on and all the windows locked. Well thats what we thought as we turned up and had a quick look through the windows on Wednesday. Turns out on closer inspection one of the windows doesn't lock properly. DH went into the house and tried to shut it, but it takes a fair bit of slamming to do it. Anyway for the time being it is our way into the house, but we will definitely be letting them know about it, so that it can be fixed.
We have had all the ceiling joins smoothed and all the cornices are on. The plaster has a couple of scratches and a nice big chunk taken out near the front door. But apart from that it looks like a good plaster job. We have been told though, that after the paint goes on, you can really see how bad (or good) a job was done. All the internal doors are hung as well. We had an email letting us know that the painter is meant to be here this week for the ceiling (maybe the doors too?), but he has so far been a no show. We were going to see if he could do a cashie job with the sealing of the walls, but it may be just easier if we do it ourselves, after handover. Luckily our neighbour has a paint spray gun, that we will be able to borrow. Also in the email it said that our cabinetry will start on Friday or start of next week! DH went out again today, and he also said that the tiles have arrived. I am a little relieved as it means I wont have to chose other tiles. We will have to buy tiles for the laundry and toilet, contemplating on whether we should get the same ones or different. Front entry...... The kids think this is the colour of the door They are so gullible sometimes. Of course they think green is a horrible colour, I guess they will be surprised when one day they turn up and its red!! While there on Wednesday, we noticed that next door had their oven, sink, basin etc installed. The workmen left the doors wide open, I thought they may have just gone for lunch, but when DH was there today he said it was still open. Some workmen just dont care!! Re: The building begins....**updated** 66Jan 22, 2009 5:01 pm Looking very nice, amazing how exciting it can be to be locked out of your own house!

Dunno about average, but from lockup to handover took our builder over 5 months. Looks good - I love that you let the kids think that's the real door colour. Re: The building begins....**updated** 68Jan 22, 2009 5:27 pm Re the window - we are having Stegbar sliding windows/doors and our SS advised that us that 'someone' will come out in the last week or so to adjust/service our windows/doors prior to handover (apparently this is standard procedure). Hopefully this is the same for you although I would still ask, lol!
ps; this is when the flyscreens will be installed also (if you getting them that is) 'We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.' - Winston Churchill Re: The building begins....**updated** 69Jan 22, 2009 9:09 pm Look'n good.... Glad to see someone elses house at the same stage as ours. I think our slab was poured on the same day as yours and haygwl's ..Dec 1st. Nice to compare. We were also told that a window fitting/ adjustments would be made by the window company just before handover. Built a modified "Daydream 279" .. Cor@l Homes on a flat 4473m block!! And lov'n it!!! Re: The building begins....**updated** 71Jan 22, 2009 10:51 pm Thanks guys....
I cant believe that we are at this stage after only 3 months. We were told by our SS that they do get their houses finished by/around 6 months, so hopefully we can meet that as well. It will give us plenty of time to do all the extras after hand-over, and before moving in, and not feel so pressured. Re: The building begins....**updated** 72Jan 23, 2009 8:51 am Monkeyupatree
I have been reading your thread with interest as we are building with the same builder, I think we may have the same supervisor! Your house is coming along so quickly and is looking great. You must be really happy with it . I cant wait to see your front door, I think it will look really good red. I think we started about 8 weeks before you but now would be at about the same stage. We were told they allow about 12 weeks from lockup to handover. Hoping it will be sooner! sonya Re: The building begins....**updated** 73Jan 23, 2009 9:19 am Thats great sonya. I cant say how pleased we are that we chose them as builders. Where abouts are you building? and what style house did you chose?
12 weeks, thats good to know....so that will bring us up to the 6 month mark, but we are hoping its sooner too, we have a bridging loan and need to finish fixing this place up to sell after we move out. Re: The building begins....**updated** 74Jan 23, 2009 9:29 am We built with Peter Stannard in the past and there were no probs so felt comfortable going with them again. We even had the same sales person this time! They have called our house a single story special, but it is a heavily modified version of the Bungalow ( an old display ). We are building in Jarrahdale. Alot of the builders we spoke to wouldn't build there. Good luck with the house selling, we sold our house privately which saved us alot of money! Sonya Re: The building begins....**updated** 75Jan 26, 2009 11:31 pm On friday the cabinetry guys were at work, and all our cabinets are in.
We have a bath sitting in the family room and a trough in the study, along with wood to go on the shelves, which are all cut and awaiting to be fixed in the robes and pantry. kitchen... licorce linea Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ ensuite... I have also chosen the licorice linea and the white valencia benchtops for my ensuite. Just yesterday i was 'having a moment' about my selections. It is so good to see them 'for real' rather than little samples. You have put my 'moment' to rest. Re: The building begins....**updated** 80Jan 27, 2009 9:00 pm Glad I could help fairy blue.
With the ensuite cabinet, I will be getting shelves put either side, for towels etc. sometime after handover. I dont think we could change that part of the plan, and if we could it was just for drawers.
