Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 16, 2015 2:40 pm Our master bedroom is at the back of the house and will have 2 x 1.8H 0.6W DHs. The proposed power points are under these. The original plan had a 0.4 x 1.8 (long and narrow) window in the wall against the alfresco but we got rid of that as its the only logical place for the bbq and we don't want cooking smells drifting up into the bedroom. Instead we asked to have that moved to the opposite wall but theres something that niggles and doesn't feel quite right with it. I'm also leaning towards putting the powerpoints and bed along that wall as well so in that case the long narrow window at the top of the bed works. If we did do that not sure I want the 2 x 1.8x 0.6 and would like to go to one bigger window. Any suggestions?[img][/img] Re: Help Needed With Window Placement In Master 2Oct 16, 2015 5:55 pm hi what directions do the walls face, is the opposite wall, sw for south west? i think that'd be a big factor in deciding where you're want your window. I just went through this dilemma too, I have my master window looking out to the alfresco which faces west. it's 1200 wide and goes to the floor nearly. everyone told me it would be stupid there as it would limit where to put the outdoor seating, and probably get too hot in summer. Their solution was to put a skinny wide window on the back wall above the bed. but I wanted it there so I could get lots of sun in winter, in summer I'll have to close the shutters, but Im ok with that. so depends on what view you have, where the sun is and if you want to lay in bed with a view or not, I didn't like the idea of having the only window in my room above my bed, I love to lay in bed watching the rain, or getting up on a spring day and drawing curtains to a nice view. Hi Thanks for your reply. The two long master windows in the plan will face East and because we are elevated above everyone else, if we place the bed under the long narrow top window we will be able to lie in bed and look out these windows at trees. But it means my husbands side of the bed will be right next to the ensuite door and I will have to walk around the bed to go to the loo in the middle of the night. This whole building thing has been a long drawn out process causing us a lot of stress and financial lost so husband is at the stage of just leave it all alone, he doesn't care anymore so I don't want to push him too much on making decisions. At this stage think we will stick to the 2 1.8H x 0.6's and the 0.4 x 1.8 and just change the position of the power points (sw stands for sliding window). Re: Help Needed With Window Placement In Master 4Oct 20, 2015 9:54 am it's hard isn't it, lots of little decisions and the cost of it all adding up!! I'd agree, stick with the windows facing east so you can have a view, I don't think it would matter too much having to walk around the bed, my room now has a similar set up, with the ensuite on one side of the bed and it really isn't an issue. all the best with your build, I hope some of the pressures ease up for you both Hi all, My first post, we are building a house and can’t decide the layout of the lounge room.
