Re: Building Custom Design with Fairmont Homes - Lewiston SA 42Mar 17, 2016 7:39 pm Thanks for the info, I am hoping we get told when to organise our data points etc as I'm not 100% which stage that happens at and the guide fairmont gave is not in correct order I don't think. Re: Building Custom Design with Fairmont Homes - Lewiston SA 43Mar 22, 2016 12:41 pm Tiling finished last Thursday and we're pretty happy with how it has turned out. I really like how the white subway tiles have turned out in the kitchen but I think if I could do it again I would use a grey grout instead of the white we used so that they're a bit more of a feature. We ended up having to get the site supervisor involved. So after 2 months of us hassling the electrician the SS contacted them told them the work had to be done by Monday or they would hold up the job as painting due to start Tuesday (this was a little fib by SS), electricians ended up coming in on Sunday to complete the job! I was a little surprised though when the hubby said that he spoke to the SS and he hadn't even noticed the holes in the wall which have been there for over a month and now there are twice as many holes after they have completed the work. Also found out that we could also be held liable for the cost of the repairs to the walls as it was additional work arranged by us even thought it was done through their contractor! The electrician has advised they will cover the cost of repairing the holes, but I guess I will just have to wait and see at this stage. All work has pretty much stopped now and SS has advised that painting will start after Easter and then the tiler will be back to tile the main floor areas (kitchen, dining/family, rumpas & hall) after painting. Feel like we are almost on the home stretch now but also feel that work is probably going to feel like it is going slow! Re: Building Custom Design with Fairmont Homes - Lewiston SA 44Apr 19, 2016 10:10 pm Hey Lewiston, how's your house coming along? Re: Building Custom Design with Fairmont Homes - Lewiston SA 45Apr 29, 2016 2:08 pm Its been so long since my last post that I forgot my password! In all honesty I had been pretty happy with the progress on the build, but things seem to have dragged on the last month and I think I have lost a little of my enthusiasm for the build. The holes in the wall caused by the electrician were repaired but this delayed the painter. I was also a little disappointed with Fairmont as they sent us a little letter trying to pass on the cost to us for the repair of the walls, which they backed down on once I pointed out that we had used a Fairmont approved contractor. The painters didn't end up starting until the 6th April and finally finished today 29th April (painters disappeared for a week in the middle of the job), I haven't been on site when trades are there to have a good look yet but hubby thinks it looks good and so it should. In between this the sinks, taps, toilets have been installed along with the garage door. Its been a little disheartening going out to the build the last month and finding no one on site or only 1 painter instead of 2 or 3. Also the house down the road that had its slab poured the same day as us moved in 2 weeks ago and it looks like the house next door who had its slab poured after us isn't far from handover. Don't get me wrong I'm happy with the quality but the way things have dragged on lately and there being no communication unless we instigate it is disappointing. I don't think we will have handover before June as previously advised by SS but they may prove me wrong yet. I'm sure once I start to see more progress again that my enthusiasm will return! Re: Building Custom Design with Fairmont Homes - Lewiston SA 46May 11, 2016 2:39 pm I finally was able to have a look through the house last week and I must admit we are pretty happy with the paint job. The colour has come out different from what I remember but we think it looks good. We were advised by our SS that the main floor tiling was meant to start last week, with carpet due to be installed at the end of this week and that we should have a walk through by the end of May however tiler only started yesterday and he has 120m2 of floor tile to lay so I think everything will probably get pushed back a week now. I only have photos from about a week ago but since taking these the built in robes have gone in, shower screens and bathroom mirrors installed and internal door handles put on. After this they will send the cleaners through and we can do a walk through. At this stage I'm guessing handover early to mid June. Re: Building Custom Design with Fairmont Homes - Lewiston SA 50May 11, 2016 9:10 pm Looks great! Nice wall colour. Re: Building Custom Design with Fairmont Homes - Lewiston SA 51May 13, 2016 11:50 am Received our final invoice today, but still not sure when build will be complete. At this stage PCI has not even been booked! Hubby visited site the other day and the tiler was laying the floor tiles, he had only just started but things were looking good so far. Tiler is anticipating that he should be finished by about the middle of next week and that the carpets had been pushed back to be installed the end of next week. I'm still hoping for PCI by the start of June but we will just have to see what happens. Hubby will contact our SS on Monday to try and lock him in for a date. Things to do before PCI are Tiling - In progress Final electrical fix - this should have been done before tiling but for some reason hasn't been done, tiler not happy as he has no power and also can't work later as no light. Siliconing of the tiling work - tiler said that someone comes in after he has finished to do this Carpet Hubby took some photo's on Tuesday when he was there and I'm hoping to visit today. Building a custom Sterling home in Adelaide. Re: Building Custom Design with Fairmont Homes - Lewiston SA 53May 14, 2016 12:41 am So so close! Hope you do manage to get handover first week of June. At least you should be able to move in pretty quickly as Fairmont have done your floor coverings. We must have the same tiler as our tiling has started and he has left a row off the bottom of the walls! Re: Building Custom Design with Fairmont Homes - Lewiston SA 54May 23, 2016 3:44 pm We finally have a date for PCI - 1st June! Re: Building Custom Design with Fairmont Homes - Lewiston SA 55May 23, 2016 4:06 pm Lewiston2015 We finally have a date for PCI - 1st June! Woo hoo! Congrats!! Re: Building Custom Design with Fairmont Homes - Lewiston SA 57May 23, 2016 10:20 pm Oh, and I wanted to ask - upthread a bit you mentioned you had delays with electricity being connected. When I spoke to the SS the other week he told me that there had been delays with our electricity being connected and it would not be connected until late June. Did the lack of electricity hold any trades up or did they just keep working? Re: Building Custom Design with Fairmont Homes - Lewiston SA 58May 24, 2016 9:54 am Bobbin Oh, and I wanted to ask - upthread a bit you mentioned you had delays with electricity being connected. When I spoke to the SS the other week he told me that there had been delays with our electricity being connected and it would not be connected until late June. Did the lack of electricity hold any trades up or did they just keep working? We still have no power and were advised yesterday by the electrician that it wouldn't be happening until Friday. I have no idea why there are delays with this as the Metricon build next door has had power since they started building. At this stage the only thing it has delayed is the completion of the extra electrical work we are getting done as they need the power to test what they have done. The other trades have just worked around it. I know that the tiler wasn't happy about it though as he likes to work longer hours and couldn't because he had no lights so he probably took an extra couple of days than planned. The thing that concerns me at the moment is that hubby has just driven past and seen that the carpet is being installed, so now I'm worried that when the electricians go in they're going to muddy up the carpets! Building Custom Design with Fairmont Homes - Lewiston SA 59May 24, 2016 3:48 pm Lewiston, ask if you can go in and put drop sheets down or something. Or maybe the SS can put the sticky plastic down so that the carpet doesn't get trashed. I feel for you! Building a custom Sterling home in Adelaide. Re: Building Custom Design with Fairmont Homes - Lewiston SA 60May 24, 2016 7:34 pm Sorry to hear of you power troubles, I didn't even consider that with ours, we were billed for electrical connection to our house but don't have to pay until later I don't think but I hope we have power on so people can do their work easily, we were told the fairmont tilers are running behind..
