Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 1001Oct 22, 2016 3:12 pm It's all coming together! You're super organised lady...I don't know how you do it all with work & kids. You're idea about hiring an excavator on an hourly basis for our block is winning! My brother inlaw can organising the fill and he said he knows an excavator that charges hourly rates and he imagines 5 hours on site at the max. $500 vs $5000!!! Will lay turf ourselves, is that what you're doing too? What turf you thinking of? We wanted buffalo but it's so expensive. Kikuyu is half the price so looks like we will be getting that. Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 1002Oct 22, 2016 5:58 pm Dee, we are getting buffalo - been quoted $8 per square meter delivered. Also grown local. Yep we are going to be doing everything ourselves. You tube and google are our friends. Glad you found a cheaper way to landscape. I love how it's just simple and clean looking. Loving having everything in the pantry because of the bench in there making it a small butlers pantry. It always looks clean as there is nothing on the benches etc and it's easy to see if someone puts something there and shouldn't. ~Shellby~ GJ Bridgewater 203 11/3/2016 - Site Work Started 29/9/2016 - Handover 142 Work Days 6 Work Days Over https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80174 Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 1005Nov 02, 2016 9:57 pm I picked up my steel sleeper posts on Friday and the guy was lovely. If anyone near tweed need some I can give you his details. I got them at wholesaler price. However the fencing company has lost my colour bond panels for my fence so I have post and rails but no panels. Luckily my digger guy is flat out and can't get to me to get my holes done until next week as I can't do anything without my panels. Neighbour came over yesterday to say sorry also - was shocked! I think she has spent the last 2 weeks thinking I would come over and give her what she wants and instead I stood my ground. Also the other neighbours agreeing to my colours didn't help her either. Otherwise I haven't done much this week on the house front due to starting a 3rd part time job and doing training this week. Do have a new issue though - my counter in my pantry is falling down. Seems they screwed it into gyrock and not a stud so kitchen guys will be here Friday to fix it. ~Shellby~ GJ Bridgewater 203 11/3/2016 - Site Work Started 29/9/2016 - Handover 142 Work Days 6 Work Days Over https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80174 Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 1006Nov 03, 2016 7:00 am How do they lose Colorbond panels? Oh my lord, your neighbour appologised? Seriously another job shell?! You need to sow down haha, I'm exhausted thinking about your days GJ Gardner Modified Coolum 277 viewtopic.php?t=83643 Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 1007Nov 04, 2016 12:09 pm My panels ended up being forgotten in Sydney and so went on this weeks truck - which had a head on yesterday (everyone is okay) so now they are being couriered up Monday. I know my neighbour said sorry. Think she saw me taking my other neighbours bin in, us helping our diagonal neighbour with a retaining wall issue and me talking and helping another neighbour - so saw if she wanted anything help wise in the future she needed to say sorry. I wasn't going over. I know, 3! But I can do half at home and the other half I can take my 2yo with me so no daycare. Hard to say no to well paying jobs with extras like that. Today pantry bench was fixed and the guy noticed (we hadn't yet) the island bench had a end issue and side joins were not glued correctly, so fixed that also. ~Shellby~ GJ Bridgewater 203 11/3/2016 - Site Work Started 29/9/2016 - Handover 142 Work Days 6 Work Days Over https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80174 Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 1009Nov 05, 2016 7:35 am Haha yep I'm with Dee!!! I'm itching to see the layout in a different form then on paper - otherwise known as Kym - Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 1010Nov 10, 2016 9:44 pm Ahh my kitchen island end is splitting again and one corner got chipped off as it was sticking up a bit and got knocked. So now have to call the kitchen shop to get them to fix it again. Then the joiner strip on the security door for my alfresco came off and now the door works in 3 pieces and not together - and I have it for 'security' so not waiting for my 12 week check up for that. Another hint people. If you have ceiling fans, when testing them at the PCI don't just switch them on and make it they work like I did. Turn them all on high and leave them on high, then come back and listen. Our lounge fan makes a tick tick tick noise as it goes around and its driving us mad. So contacted builder who has put me onto the fan company to do a warranty claim! So now I have to go through all that crap just to have the fan replaced whereas if I picked it up at PCI I could have had them replace it before handover. Now I know my rights are I can force the builder to replace and deal with the fan company, but I'm not up to the fight for that when I have other things on my repair list I want done. ~Shellby~ GJ Bridgewater 203 11/3/2016 - Site Work Started 29/9/2016 - Handover 142 Work Days 6 Work Days Over https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80174 Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 1011Nov 11, 2016 6:56 am thanks for the tips shell. we are supplying our own fans but ill be making a note of that sorry to hear that your kitchen cabinetry is splitting again!! id be peeved. on a more fun note, i can't wait to see your landscaping!! - otherwise known as Kym - Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 1012Nov 11, 2016 6:01 pm ~Shellby~ GJ Bridgewater 203 11/3/2016 - Site Work Started 29/9/2016 - Handover 142 Work Days 6 Work Days Over https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80174 Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 1013Nov 11, 2016 6:33 pm Woo hoo!!! - otherwise known as Kym - Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 1015Nov 11, 2016 7:01 pm Is it just me or does that look like fun on that excavator?! Yeeha! Can't wait to see it finished. Hope you don't mind but I will be bugging you with heaps of advice asking when we do ours! We have no idea what we are doing! Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 1016Nov 12, 2016 8:58 am Dee - it is fun, just a big toy. Since starting we have had all the males neighbours in the neighbour hood coming to watch and hand out . Sadly it look like rain coming......nooooo as clay and excavators don't mix. Plus these holes must be done as I have a cement truck coming Monday. Here is my front yard as we need to dig it back to put in 2 retaining walls. This is the time taking job, digging and moving dirt. So far 4 hours - that would have cost $340 so far with the quote we got. Only $385 to hire machine the whole weekend from Friday after 4 to Monday 7am. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Half dirt moved already to back this is left to move. Also making a deck is easy, as long as you have good tools. Rain left and brought humidity. Should get holes finished soon and then put posts in. Tomorrow is put the colourbond framing together for fence, attach to the steel posts and use the first sleeper to hold it all fairly straight. Then use some bracing to hold each straight for cement truck on Monday. So Monday I will have everything frame wise done. Then next few days we will slide in sleepers and colourbond panels and have our fence. Good thing the neighbour is away, so would have had a heart attack when we were drilling by next to her wall - they are close, plus the sound of rocks bring crushed and dirt falling on her side - the stress would have been horrible for us. I pulled a few of her plants out I was worried would be crushed and next week I will replant them all and clean the side so when she comes back she should be happy. ~Shellby~ GJ Bridgewater 203 11/3/2016 - Site Work Started 29/9/2016 - Handover 142 Work Days 6 Work Days Over https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80174 Re: Our First Build - GJ Gardener Bridgewater 1020Nov 14, 2016 8:15 pm What a tiring weekend. We were not finished yesterday so had to hire the excavator for an extra day and moved the cement to tomorrow. Finally got framing together. However half way through I found out half our rails were missing. I got lucky, they had 16 I needed in basalt from another customer order. So called the customer asked if they could wait 3 days for my missing ones to arrive to fill their order, he was fine as he still didn't know when he was going to install. That was so lucky. Tomorrow morning we will get up early (as truck not coming until 10:30) and brace the posts straight and ready for pour. I never want to do all that ever again - yes I have saved about $3000-$4000 dollars but so much hard work it's hard to sit back and enjoy. However now I can see were my land is it looks bigger than it did which is nice.
