Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 18, 2015 10:40 am I have some west facing windows that I want to tint to block the heat and I got a couple of quotes. However, two different films were quoted and the price varied widely. How can I find out what is a fair price and not get ripped off? Re: How can you avoid being ripped off by tradies? 2Sep 18, 2015 10:46 am Google is your friend. This works for me with just about any building product. Just enter "Price + manufacturer name + film name" (eg "price 3M Prestige 70") and you can find out what price is commonly being charged for that product. When you have done your research and decided on a particular product, just do a price search for the product. Try "Cost + manufacturer + product name" if you want more results. Re: How can you avoid being ripped off by tradies? 3Sep 18, 2015 11:26 am Thanks MickJen– re: google is your friend. Worked for me. I have been researching window tinting for my home for a while and I had pretty much settled on nightsky 20. Following your advice I entered "price solargard Nightsky 20" in google search and WOW. I found tintingdirectcomau that not only gave me a price for Nightsky 20 but also the price of seven competing films from other window film manufacturers PLUS it has an online quote system that let me calculate the cost to tint the west windows in my home. Offering Australia wide installation they even have a local installer for when I am ready to do the job. Best advice ever. Elvis has left the building...
