Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 17, 2015 12:53 pm Hi all,
It has been a while since I last posted. We built with BT Homes in 2013 and have thoroughly enjoyed making the house our own. Having made quite a few good decisions with our block choice, floor plan, fit-out etc. we have been able to add quite a bit of value to the house so are thinking of selling, building again for roughly the same budget as last time but with a reduced mortgage. Love the house and location but a smaller mortgage is very enticing! Will be building single storey this time (in the same suburb, love where we live!). We don't want to necessarily down sizing/down grading, but rather making better decisions and adding things we wish we had in our first house. Scullery, bigger kitchen opening out to alfresco, bigger ensuite, no study, bedroom 4 to be fitted out as a multi-purpose room etc. Now to try and find a builder! Anyone built with Blueprint, HomeGroup WA, Aveling? What was your experience? Any other builders I should be looking at?? Cheers! Re: Are we crazy?! 2Sep 17, 2015 1:16 pm I remember following your BTH build before, I still refer back to your thread sometimes, I think it's due for a photo update No advise on builders but glad to hear you still love wannanup, we are excited to join you just down the road I did go to an event the other night at aveling and their prestart room and office is pretty state of the art so if that reflects on how their homes are too you'll be pretty safe with them. Home group are known as slow group but seem to build ok homes, lots of detailed threads on here about their builds. Are we crazy?! Builder recommendations please! 3Sep 17, 2015 6:33 pm I agree, some photos should be put up! Have also heard homegroup take a while but they have a lot of great designs. Your place is looking fantastic, have a bit of reading to catch up on My Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=62841 Re: Are we crazy?! Builder recommendations please! 5Sep 17, 2015 6:40 pm Thanks! Yes you do...a few 60 or so pages a bit of light reading. They do have great designs, I looked at them the other day when I had the silly idea of building an investment property (not proceeding haha) and they had some plans I really loved! Is there a reason you want to build single storey now? What about Dale Alcock? Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Re: Are we crazy?! Builder recommendations please! 6Sep 17, 2015 6:47 pm Beazley77 Have you thought about bypassing project builders and using smaller boutique builders and your own drafts person to do your design and drawings etc? We have looked at a few small boutique builders, Port Bouvard and Baldivis, so definitely haven't ruled it out. Just need to make a time to have a chat and see what they can do for us. Is there a reason you want to build single storey now? What about Dale Alcock? The blocks we are looking at, building two storey would be a bit of a waste. They are decent sized so will have a good sized backyard and no chance of views so single seems easier. Budget and practicality for future babies other considerations (already know I'll be cursing the fact our room is upstairs when the baby will be downstairs). Not pregnant yet, just forward planning My Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=62841 Re: Are we crazy?! Builder recommendations please! 8Sep 17, 2015 7:00 pm Ah fair enough, yeah I wondered the same thing the other day, wait till I tell the partner he may need to use a bedroom upstairs as his theatre so the theatre downstairs can be a nursery Yes big backyards are a pain as I've found now because they are so expensive to finish! Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Re: Are we crazy?! Builder recommendations please! 9Sep 18, 2015 7:38 pm We are building with Aveling currently and it has predominantly been a positive experience. Besides a few typos on some forms, and one person who was less then desirable (though we went around this staff member and got what we wanted in a timely manner), it has been a really smooth experience. We are happy with Aveling and would recommend them. New Generation are also really good to work with, though even though they are slightly more expensive, we have learned that most of their standard inclusions are better then Aveling. My friend is currently building with Aveling in South Yunderup and so far have had no problems. They liked a Dale Alcock home, but then found Aveling did one similar with what they wanted for cheaper. My husband and I are building with Content. We have only just finalised a plan and they have been great so far, and we currently own a Content home as well, (bought it established) and it's the best house on the street. Content are great because they own a lot of their subcontracting companies and therefore get everything cheaper. (Content can do the biggest stone benchtops out there without a join) bring on big island bench woooooo) We looked at building with HGWA but I don't reckon the $50k of inclusions is worth it. For instance I read led lighting throughout as part of that inclusion and I was like wow, great, read the fine print and it was one light per room, ha! They also wanted 2 grand to draw up a plan so was like seeeeeyahhhhh hahaha. Re: Are we crazy?! Blue print and your experience please! 12Oct 07, 2015 10:07 pm Thanks for the suggestions guys. Have looked at all of the builders mentioned but are now very interested in going with blue print. They have several plans that we love, seem to be pretty easy to work with, great inclusions, flexible and within budget. Anyone built with them? Would love to hear from those of you that have! My Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=62841 Re: Are we crazy?! Blue print and your experience please! 13Oct 09, 2015 12:41 am Hi emacleo0, we are building with Blueprint, hoping to have slab in next 4/5 weeks or so. We loved the design and the specs, our sales guy was fantastic and everyone else so far has been great. Always an email or phone all away if I needed to query anything. I'm hoping this continues through the duration of the build as we are having a good experience so far. I had 28m2 of engineered pavers laid six months back and it was difficult to find someone not taking the pi$$. Internet suggested it should be $85-100/m2 to lay them.… 3 12408 Iām just in the process of replacing 2 stud walls that have been severely damaged by termites and am planning to use h2 blue pine. I just wanted to if anyone can advise… 0 52857 I apologise for any confusion, but your understanding is correct. We approached our situation differently based on advice from… 11 53226 |
