Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 19, 2015 2:59 pm But this year it may turn out to be a pain in the bum - We just got our start date of first week in Sept which means the 14 week completion date falls right around 23rd Dec and off course they don't work over Christmas break so that isn't included in the construction time does anyone know would it just be christmas eve and boxing day that are included as public holidays as stated in the contract extra days don't include public holidays so maybe there won't eb too much delay. But then there is all that red tape stuff like with the bank etc. Does anyone have any experience with a similar situation or does anyone know how long it roughly takes between completion and moving in ? Thanks Re: I normally Love Christmas but ....... 2Aug 19, 2015 6:27 pm I don't know for sure, but last year my builder closed from about 14th December - 21st January. They are a smaller builder, but I know a lot of builders and people in the building industry take about 4-6 weeks off over December/January. My house is settling in December, so I guess I won't be able to start building till February or March Re: I normally Love Christmas but ....... 3Aug 20, 2015 2:14 pm Just got word they think the build should take more like 12-14 weeks rather then 14-16 so will be finished early dec hopefully everyone pls cross fingers for me !!! Aloenyx I hope they can get started on yours as soon as poss in the new year, how frustrating is it waiting! Our land settlement and everything went through the last few weeks in dec last year and it was a big pain having to wait while everything's shut ( mind you all I get over Christmas off is Boxing Day and Christmas Day ) Re: I normally Love Christmas but ....... 6Aug 20, 2015 7:14 pm We do work for several volume builders and find most will shut down around the 21st Dec and get back and running (albeit slowly) after the first week of Jan. And Dec is usually out busiest month as everyone is trying to pump out as much work as possible before shutdown. We are at about 10 weeks now and only up to grey float! about 1 year and 4 months in if you include the delays in titles and paperwork and scheduling lol My topic thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=76249&start=20#p1316378 Re: I normally Love Christmas but ....... 8Aug 21, 2015 8:17 pm Yep 14 weeks from the start date, they are super quick! Re: I normally Love Christmas but ....... 9Aug 22, 2015 10:12 am That's quick. My builder straight up told me 6 months. But they are a small builder, so they can't afford to just throw tradies at the build. That's okay though, I'd rather having it done once and done right. Plus just more time to save.. Re: I normally Love Christmas but ....... 10Aug 25, 2015 8:16 am I hope I'll only need it done once haha ! Yeah volume builders definitely have the resources to pump them out quickly Re: I normally Love Christmas but ....... 11Sep 23, 2015 8:17 am Gypsyhabitat Is the 14 weeks they have given you from site works to keys? We are at about 10 weeks now and only up to grey float! about 1 year and 4 months in if you include the delays in titles and paperwork and scheduling lol It seems that various states build houses differently - over in Vic (and probably Tas?) I believe that most if not all of our internal walls are framed/stud walls with plasterboard over them, they aren't built with brick and then grey float/white float like they are in WA etc. As such it seems that some builds can be quicker than others, I guess it can depend on the builder and what they can do. We were going to go with Carlisle Homes and they offer a 20 week build guarantee. However, we are now going with a smaller builder who are saying 6 months (but won't guarantee that either).... My blog: tashandpaul.wordpress.com Not sure who you're building with, but I moved in recently to a 11month scheduled, 8 month actual build on the South coast/Illawarra NSW 3 5994 Joe, it depends on your certifier but we are noticing the ones we deal with are really cracking down.
