Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 18, 2015 4:13 pm What would you say if your builder wouldn't install toilets with an in-wall cistern, purely because they don't like the idea of them re maintenance? The volume builder we have just received a contract from has said no to many standard things that we have had to fight for and they have declined installing these toilets for no real reason other that their own personal preferences. All of my research indicates that these toilets have been around for years and that any maintenance likely to be required can be done via the flush plate. Anything major which is apparently highly unlikely, can be done via the rear of the adjacent wall so as not to disturb tiles. Does the builder have a case? We are spending a lot of money, as is anyone building a home, so to be told 'no' every step of the way is getting frustrating. What do you think? This was the main reason we switched builder, the first one kept saying no to the changes we wanted, so we changed to a builder that said "fine, it might cost you". We have been happy so far and they have not said no once, it might be costing us a bit more, but we are getting what we want and we love it so far. Good Luck. Thank you yes I agree- if you're willing to pay for something, particularly something as simple as these toilets, and every plumber probably would install them... Why does the builder care? A bit strange I think and I'm through arguing. It is to the point where I am reading the Building Code for them when I question their decisions. Frustrating. You're bound to ask for trouble, it's not their cup of tea. You should go to a proper custom builder. You'll realise you'll be paying less if you go custom builder cos they probably have those as a standard. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75739&p=1299716#p1299716 Re: In-wall cistern toilet suites 5Aug 19, 2015 8:43 am MrsJM What would you say if your builder wouldn't install toilets with an in-wall cistern, purely because they don't like the idea of them re maintenance? I'd tell them where to go and get a different builder. When I was first looking for a builder here I went to the one that sticks their signs up on the block for a home and land deal, and wanted things like worm farm treatment plant versus their standard HSTP, wanted to organise my own earthmover for the house pad and driveway, amongst other things. They told me they will not allow the worm farm treatment plant, and tried to make me think that only their own earthmoving subbie would do the house pad to their requirements. On top of the pricing they were going to charge for standard things such as water tank ($11,000 versus $4750 I paid or $6750 if Taylex installed it for me), was just ridiculous. Anyway in the end I just got fed up with them, and started looking at different builders, and finally went owner builder. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld.
