Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 17, 2015 4:27 pm So we are looking at building the Odyssey with new Generation and are looking for some help with ideas to improve the floor plan. Ideas we have had so far: - increase size of wardrobes in three bedrooms (just a little). - make shelving in linen L shaped - square front bedroom - push garage wall up a little into theatre room for more space in garage (no need for theatre to be the biggest room in the house) - add door to theatre and laundry - rearrange ensuite so we can add a door onto (not sure on this layout yet, to work out) - make sure kitchen has overhead cabinets Any suggestions would be great! I might also consider putting a sliding door to the second bathroom. I agree, a cupboard/pantry on the theatre wall in the kitchen would be handy. Also, will you have bench space/linen cupboard in the laundry? I might consider putting a linen cupboard in there also and reducing the side of the WIL to accommodate a larger robe for bed4. Is there room in the second WC to walk in and close the door behind you? I only ask because the toilet at my parents house doesn't really have enough room- you kind of have to squish against the wall to get in Re: Help with floor plan 6Aug 18, 2015 1:36 pm Thanks for your advice, I like the idea of putting the robes under the eaves for more space in the back two bedrooms, depending how much space that leaves around the back of the block (small block!), also if we moved the theatre door like Purplenetti has we could use the wall next to the theatre to add cupboards for the kitchen, same with the changes to the pantry, swapping with the fridge recess and making the WIR slightly smaller to fit a bigger pantry (might not be needed if we add those extra cupboards but still a good idea!). Thanks everyone Re: Help with floor plan 7Aug 18, 2015 2:22 pm I'd try to get hanging down both sides of that WIR. If you pull back some of the cutout out of the front corner, you could shorten up the bedroom a bit to get the shower, wc and basin a row in the ensuite, possibly with the toilet where the shower is now if you want to keep the separate toilet. Then you can take the width out of that to make the wider WIR. I think it'd be worth shrinking the bedroom a bit in order to get double the storage into the robe. Similarly, that walk in linen must just about be big enough to get shelving on the side behind the door. Even if those are just 300mm shelves, it helps the ratio of usable to wasted space. It may be worth lengthening the back of the house 200mm to get those extra shelves in, and to get a basin into the toilet. This is a very tight fit, I'm not sure if you'll be able to achieve what you've described. Would you consider accessing the separate toilet from the laundry?
