Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 12, 2015 5:54 pm We liked the look of their displays. The initial engagement was very average. I thought the design stage was quite good for a custom home. The selections was very hit and miss. We are now going through working drawings and have an admin person looking after us. To be honest the experience has turned in to a headache. There seems to be constant delays, we're misfed information and we're actually looking at other options. Is anyone else building with CG and do they have similar experiences? Re: Who's building with Carter Grange in Melbourne? 2Jun 26, 2016 3:12 pm Hi Manic How's your build with carter grange? We're trying to build with them (keyword: trying) but we've encountered hurdles after hurdles. I'm just wondering if there's anything I can do on my part that can make the whole journey smoother. Re: Who's building with Carter Grange in Melbourne? 3Jun 26, 2016 9:18 pm Hi Watermelon, We're nearly there. I know what you mean but 'trying' to build with them. We were near contract stage and simply couldn't get answers on basic important questions like prices on different options, minor changes that take a couple of weeks to make and simply misinformation that didnt make sense. With all of that we persevered because of their build stage reputation despite going to other builders for comparable quotes. In terms of what you can do, I would suggest a few things: 1. batch up all of your changes so when it goes through their 'process' you get changes made at once. 2. With electrical, don't stress about nailing it upfront as you can make many changes after the contract is signed with the electrician direct. 3. Try and complete one stage fully before moving on ie. don't say you'll progress past initial design unless you're 100% complete with no further changes. Any changes you make down the track have ripple effects and their internal departments don't always talk to each other. Good luck and let me know if you need more help. Re: Who's building with Carter Grange in Melbourne? 4Jul 21, 2016 5:16 pm Hi Manic Will you be documenting your progress with Carter Grange? Seems to be very little posting on carter grange builds these days. Would be good to hear what selections/upgrades you went with also. We are looking to build with Carter Grange but ran into some issues with council which has put things somewhat on hold. Michael Re: Who's building with Carter Grange in Melbourne? 5Jul 22, 2016 1:46 pm Hi Michael, I am not planning on doing a blog if that's what you're asking. Happy to share my experiences on the build however. In terms of upgrades, the main items were timber floors, fireplace and electrical (lights, powerpoints, etc). From memory other items were upgraded underlay, A-line roof tiles, silestone benchtop, built in robes, etc. About 50k on the std build.
