Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Rural build Bullsbrook WA 41Sep 05, 2015 12:40 pm well… more progress! The access track seems to have almost finished. looks like they have used the rock… because i can't see it piled up anywhere anymore! I hope that it has turned out less costly than initially estimated… Looks like a bloody highway… it is wide enough in some places for 2 lanes. have to say… would look great lined with some trees. perhaps it will be time to plant a few. though better wait till the majority of truck traffic is done first. any suggestions as to what kind of trees to plant??? natives?? deciduous?? don't know what is going to survive out there as there will certainly be no retic. the soil looks like sandy/clay… which is why it is boggy down there. This is a pic of the crossover after the beefing up… looks good. Those were nice big trees. i do notice that they are gone now. i hope the remainder trees further in will grow bigger and make up the canopy that the trees on the edge had. don't think they have actually excavated the area just yet. i think they just bowled over the trees and ripped them out and piled them up…. Oh well. Going to have a firewood chopping expedition next couple of weekends. store up the wood and let it season over the next summer or 2. Re: Rural build Bullsbrook WA 42Sep 05, 2015 1:21 pm I love tree lined driveways, so yes I would plant them. I also am a big fan of those trees being deciduous . (Dreams of driving an Aston Martin up a long driveway with fallen leaves goin everywhere as I zoom through at speed lol) Anyways.... Just make sure the trees you plant have the right type of root system, or are planted far enough away. Don't want them ripping it up when they get big. Now back to my dream.... Rural build Bullsbrook WA 44Sep 05, 2015 4:47 pm Only thing I would say is deciduous will drop leaves which round here means you have to clear them up otherwise they become fire fuel.....how long is your driveway again?!! Mind you speaking from experience most natives constantly drop leaves anyway (I've just come in from a days raking!!) Re: Rural build Bullsbrook WA 46Sep 07, 2015 11:26 am Your block and plans look amazing. Looking forward to watching your progress. I have bought trees from arborwest and i found them great. they would deliver and plant them. was wondering if anyone else had used the other companies, particularly ellenby? price wise, planting service, after care… Re: Rural build Bullsbrook WA 51Sep 11, 2015 11:32 am We've had Benara nurseries recommended to us - they do wholesale for businesses, not sure if they sell to the public though. There's also a local nursery on GNH just past Muchea if you want to support local. Re: Rural build Bullsbrook WA 53Sep 11, 2015 4:38 pm Cool! I can't remember the name unfortunately, I'll have to ask DH but its on the RHS (as you head towards Bindoon). Re: Rural build Bullsbrook WA 54Oct 31, 2015 10:54 pm ok long time no update! Been a lot of progress over the last several weeks. mainly still earthworks. Watching the progress and the amont of work that goes into it makes me appreciate why it cost so darn much!! The access track was the first to be completed. It now should be able to deal with the trucks coming and going. It was made into a loop aound the site so it would be easier for the trucks to leave without reversing. Might get rid of it once the house is built and the loop no longer required. havent decided yet. Making it up as i go i think. This is a pic of cut out the back of the site. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ terracing taking shape. i think the sand pad pretty much completed.
