Having gone through these pages for a while now I thought it was time to begin a thread regarding our own first home building experience here in SA. As first home buyers we wanted something cost effective, not too far from the city and the beach which is why all the new development at Seaford really caught our attention. Our land settled two weeks ago and we have spent endless days meeting with endless amounts of builders (you most probably know the feeling!) and just yesterday finally signed a PSA in order to get the ball rolling.
How we came across our builder of choice is actually an interesting story. Having met with every builder in the industry we narrowed our search down to Dechellis, Fairmont and Rossdale. This came down to primarily three factors - 1) they were able to incorporate the design we wanted 2) the cost of the build 3) the time of the build.
However, of the three the only one we were really sold on was Rossdale as the Sales Consultant was a builder himself and was honest and upfront with us from the begining. The only problem we had with Rossdale was their 'premium price' which was more than Dechellis and significantly more expensive than Fairmont which left us with a tough decision to make. A few weeks later we got a call from our Sales Consultant at Rossdale who told us that he had decided to get back into the building game and has started up his own business called BetterHomesAdelaide and gave us a fixed price quote (including fully fixed footings) at a price better than that of even Fairmonts.
We are building a 252m2 home. Open plan living, 4 bedrooms, theatre, ensuite, pantry and alfresco. We have upgraded a fair few things such as square set cornices, 3m entry (2.7 ceilings), a commercial front floor to ceiling window, stone bench tops, cavity sliders, awning windows throughout and much more.
We are getting soil tests, plans and elevations done this week so hopefully I will be able to post some photos in the coming days.
Thanks CJ!
