Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 08, 2008 3:49 pm We are at the very beginning of the home building process and are scheduled to meet with our builder this weekend to discuss final pricing before we pay a 10% deposit to proceed.
Now my query is, my dad is an electrician and has said he would wire our home for us which gives us the opportunity to save quite a significant amount of money BUT is it worth the cash saving for the potential hassle this might cause? I am thinking the builder may not be positive about this suggestion or that it will be very hard to coordinate. Has anyone got some advice for me on this? Much appreciated. Re: Is it worth asking our builder to not include electrical? 3Jul 08, 2008 3:56 pm I agree, a volume builder might not let you do it, but a smaller one might.
If nothing else get your dad to advise you on the best ideas for how many pp's etc (the more the better!) and get him ti install any tricky lights after handover. My dad is also an electrician unfortunately he's away for a few months otherwise I'd be asking him to do mine too! Re: Is it worth asking our builder to not include electrical? 4Jul 08, 2008 4:01 pm Hmmmm - I must confess - I don't know what the difference is between a private builder and a volume builder....
I know that the builder is a family owned and run company that has been established in Canberra for over 20 years. Does that mean anything? Re: Is it worth asking our builder to not include electrical? 5Jul 08, 2008 4:05 pm volume builders are the ones like M3tricon, Port3r Davis, Simmond3, nati0nal build3rs, etc
A private builder generally doesnt have 100's of displays and will build you plans. They usually are a small company, the person you deal with is the builder not a sales consultant. Sounds like yours is a private builder. You can check out what they did by looking at their blog:
