Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 04, 2015 2:16 pm Hi everyone I wanted to start a thread for my build which has just got underway in the past week or so. Building my second house. My first was about 6 years ago now and was built by Dennis Family Homes and is the Columbia 21. Been a good house but have just outgrown it. Now building this second house jointly with my sister. We chose the Brookwater 49 because it gives you two really good Master Suites, one upstairs and one downstairs, allowing us to each have our space. We bought a block of land looking at the hills in Eucalypt Wollert back in February. It titled end April and our site start happened 24th July. We have been told to expect the slab to be poured around 20th August. Can't wait to finally see it begin to take shape. It's been a roller coaster ride to get to this point, between hiccups with the bank, delays on the land settlement and some issues with Porter Davis, I've certainly had my fair share of stress, but things have really settled down now. I remember from my last build, things definitely got easier once building started. Here is a basic rundown of what we have chosen; So as mentioned, we chose the Brookwater 49, however our block is irregular shaped and one side has an easement and meant the house was too long to fit. We opted to chop off the Rumpus and square off the back of the house by making a bigger laundry and family room. We also have a wider block so we did a 2mtr garage extension which we have turned into a store room. Here are our plans; We chose the Hampton façade cos we absolutely love that American home look and we opted to go the same colour scheme with only a few minor adjustments, as the Brookwater 47 display at Harcrest. Here is the drawing of ours and the photo of that display to compare Inside, we are going for a classic timeless look, rather than modern. The Waldorf Grange display opened the weekend after my colours appointment but amazingly, it was very similar in style to what we picked. We have dado paneling throughout the ground floor and have gone for grey walls with white trim like this; These are even the front doors we have chosen except we picked Basalt for the paint colour; Didn't do many downlights as we both love pendant lights and picked the Madrid range from Beacon lighting; These will be over the island bench; This will be above the stair void; These are our doors; For the staircase, we chose that classic paint style like this, but with the plain balusters and ours will have a carpet runner; We've chosen the rustic black laminate flooring and a dark carpet (got lots of pets!!) Absolutely can't wait to see the finished thing. So glad to hear that it gets easier when building starts Thankyou Yes I definitely got easier for me first time around. The paperwork side is the hard part in my opinion. Haven't had the chance to have a look but did go a couple of nights ago and got some pics; And we found that our neighbor has built part of their house almost on the boundary which they were allowed to do, just a little disappointing, but no biggy.
