Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 01, 2015 8:26 pm Hi All! I haven't seen many Weeks and Macklin builds on here so thought I'd run a post on our experience. So far they've been really good, and very helpful. We're building the Ashdale, but we're adding an extra metre through the middle of the house so we get an extended pantry, larger living room and the two bedrooms are slightly bigger. http://weeksmacklinhomes.com.au/home-designs/ashdale#.Vbyd-3CXeK0 My husband and I have purchased a 700sqm block of land in Ethelton (western Adelaide) and we had settlement on it yesterday. We're also looking into building a granny flat in the backyard for my father in law at the same time. Still trying to work out who to go through for this - any advice would be gratefully received. Once I work out how to add pics I'll put one up of the plan and the land. We almost built with Weeks Peacock. Lovely homes. When do you think you'll start? System Built (Main North Road/Grand Junction Rd) at Gepps Cross might be worth looking at for the Granny flat Re: Building Weeks & Macklin Ashdale in Western Adelaide 4Aug 01, 2015 10:27 pm Thanks TomCat! We're just waiting for soil reports etc and then council approvals - I've noticed time becomes quite "rubbery" during this process as things both seem to take forever and yet so suddenly lol! Funnily enough we went to Systembuilt today and they told us they're not doing granny flats anymore. We had considered going with All Steel as they're the granny flat offshoot of Weeks, just so it would simplify the process but they are pretty pricey! Atlas Living and Oasis transportables are potentials too. I like the shipping container modular concept but there are no display villages for them in Adelaide and I would rather be able to see before buying and be able to talk directly to the salesperson. It's all such an exciting process!! I'm so keen to do selections etc, here's hoping we get to do them soon! Oh what about Atlas on Port Wakefield Road Cavan (about 4 minutes north of Gepps Cross intersection). On east side between Commercial Road and Cavan Road) Re: Building Weeks & Macklin Ashdale in Western Adelaide 7Nov 30, 2015 11:11 am Hey any updates with your build? I'm new to this homeone forum. I'm building with Weeks & Macklin as well and curious to know how you are rating their service and quality of product? Re: Building Weeks & Macklin Ashdale in Western Adelaide 8Nov 22, 2017 10:28 am Just completed my second build with Weeks and Macklin.. The first (2013) went well, agent was excellent, supervisor fantastic, 20 week build time, quality installs however the electrician ignored the requested position for TV power point and made up his own, same in bathroom as he placed it half way over the tile... and a power point doesn't work in main bedroom. My second build (2017) has been a DISASTER!!! Will NEVER build with them again. 8 re-drafts of the plans as they constantly made mistakes- them not us making changes as they got things wrong. Even mid-construction changes needed to be made as they had the wrong measurements for the roller-door and position of gas outlet in kitchen. Each of these redrafts cost us another 3 weeks delay to start. Our site manager was hopeless... VERY difficult to make contact with and made excuses, or ignored me when I asked questions about the position of things. Loop holes in contract.... variations to price as they had to move a pile of soil 5 m of $350 ..... If you agree to soil removal being at your expense don't forget that if you get them to do your driveway that is more soil they leave dumped in 2 places on the block even though it is common practice for contractors to remove this, they won't. Selections range for plumbing is limited (less to choose from than my first experience). Slab was incorrect- had to re-cut out wet area sections and they cut too low for sliding door meaning it didn't close properly- they gap filled it weeks later... Gaps between top of sliding door and brickwork upon completion, not enough space was allocated upon drafting for gap between toilet and cupboard in bathroom (things you expect them to get right). Still finding mistakes as we just got keys... The fastest thing a builder will do is bank your cheque, those systems work perfectly with lightning speed, everything else is slow burn. Just the way it is. 1 8711 Can someone please offer some advice? Im DESPERATE. Because I'm completely and utterly exhausted. How long are variations taking with other companies at the moment?
