Re: Our new home in Brisbane's north 42Nov 17, 2015 2:33 pm Looks like it's finally moving along!! looking good!!! is that your yard in the first picture? Be aweosme to already have landscape half done if it is lol Re: Our new home in Brisbane's north 43Nov 17, 2015 2:38 pm No, unfortunately it's not MrBee. It would be nice but it's actually a spare block owned by our neighbour. Our block is a battle axe with the driveway running down the right hand side of it. Re: Our new home in Brisbane's north 44Nov 25, 2015 12:21 pm Re: Our new home in Brisbane's north 45Nov 25, 2015 6:15 pm Have posted this separately too: We have a large void where our internal stairs are and we've just learned that there needs to be allowance for expansion on the walls at the point where the ground level meets the first level. Our builder says he normally finishes this with a strip of architrave all the way around. I would prefer a seamless look from ground floor to level one ceiling. He mentioned that there is an L-shaped or H-shaped joiner that can be used that may look more subtle. Anyone have any thoughts or opinions? What does your house have? Do you love it, hate it? Would you do it differently next time? Re: Our new home in Brisbane's north 46Dec 18, 2015 11:21 am Lots happening this week, it's great to see everything coming together so nicely! The attic area has that been lined up there? or is there just a ladder and you will line it later? Re: Our new home in Brisbane's north 49Dec 18, 2015 11:49 am They put some leftover sheets of timber up there for us and installed a light too so it is a really handy good-sized space. Will try to grab some pics next time Re: Our new home in Brisbane's north 50Dec 18, 2015 11:57 am Bjhf They put some leftover sheets of timber up there for us and installed a light too so it is a really handy good-sized space. Will try to grab some pics next time That would be great I want to do something similar myself. Found a company who convert roof space but expensive. this is them https://www.facebook.com/roofspacerenovators Re: Our new home in Brisbane's north 51Dec 18, 2015 2:22 pm Wow bjhf how good does your house look!!!! Extremely jealous of your kitchen I wish so badly I had gone the same colours. Your stairs are amazing love them and the giant mirror in your ensuite is fab too. The built in cabinetry to the family area off the kitchen is a great idea. Re: Our new home in Brisbane's north 52Dec 18, 2015 3:56 pm Thanks so much for the kind comments tribe Sometimes I think our choice of colours is a bit boring but I wanted to ensure we picked them in such a way that the home can be easily updated as it ages. Eg kitchen benchtops can be changed to whatever the latest colour/trend is while keeping the plain white cabinetry as it should never date. Hopefully my theory pays off down the track Re: Our new home in Brisbane's north 53Dec 18, 2015 4:07 pm MrBee the attic ladder was around $1000 and that's all it seems to have cost us. The builder put extra bracing on the beams to allow for the extra weight that will be up there. He also used different shaped trusses in the section around the ladder so that there is space to move around. He didn't seem to charge us anything extra for these things which is nice. The light and switch up there was our only other cost. Obviously doing it after the fact will be different though. I think we've been really lucky to get all that extra storage space for such a small cost Re: Our new home in Brisbane's north 54Dec 19, 2015 7:30 pm Loving our kitchen. Our new home in Brisbane's north 55Dec 21, 2015 1:55 pm I think you picked wisely Bjhf, the kitchen colours are my favs I would of gone the same white cabinets and grey stone if the budget would of allowed the 2pac cabinets but budget said no so we had to be creative your pantry is a great size as is the upstairs linen (can never have enough storage) love the pendant too, I bet you had a wtf where they thinking moment when you saw the light not centered, God knows why they do silly things like that. Looks like your getting close to finishing too? Re: Our new home in Brisbane's north 56Dec 21, 2015 2:06 pm So close to finishing Tribe. Handover was going to be today actually but there were too many little things still to be finished off so we decided we'd rather everyone slowed down and did the job properly and we'll look forward to a nice house mid Jan. It was tempting but we've waited this long now, we didn't want a rush job just to get it done before Chrissy Re: Our new home in Brisbane's north 57Dec 21, 2015 2:14 pm It's a hard call hey, you could say I want it now but those little rush jobs might ruin all the beautiful work they have done to date. You made the right choice it will be worth the wait it's lovely. On the bright side you will get all the post Xmas sales Re: Our new home in Brisbane's north 59Dec 24, 2015 7:43 pm Christmas Eve... Aaargh... We might have had our beautiful new home now if I wanted it. Did we make the right decision? I sooooo would have loved it but trying to tell myself the wait is worth it.
