Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 15, 2014 3:21 pm Hi all,
Stumbled upon this forum a few days ago and have been hooked ever since! (And lost a lot of my time in the process!) I thought it would be a great spot to post updates of my first build, as well as ask a BUNCH of questions. I'm in the process of signing up and building with Commodore Homes in Alkimos Beach. I'm on 420sqm with a block that has a 400mm contour left to right. I'm building the Maxi, as seen below. This is the final floor plan (edited 12 June): As a bit of a background I'm 25 and building the home on my own, and as such setting it up for myself but also keeping in mind resale. Its hard to tick all boxes, especially with a smaller block but I'm happy with what I've done. I enjoy my bikes and cars, thus the conversion of the study to a workshop. The theatre will be my man cave of sorts, and is where a lot of my attention will be upon moving in. Structurally its going to be hard to make any changes now, but beyond that I'm open to all suggestions in terms of furniture placement, colours, tips, advice etc. I've never done any of this before and its certainly been a steep and stressful learning curve doing it all on my own, but I'm loving every minute of it. I want to fit it out to look very modern, with a balance of whites, blacks and greys. Any suggestions here are most welcome. Thanks for reading! Re: First build: Commodore Homes, Alkimos Beach 2Jan 16, 2014 6:58 pm Hi, I've also only found these forums recently. I am a first time builder myself, so won't really be advising. I also in process of buying land at alkimos beach - the slope is going up from front to back about 2m. Just thougt I'd say Hello Re: First build: Commodore Homes, Alkimos Beach 3Jan 16, 2014 8:02 pm There you go. Putting up the image for you Re: First build: Commodore Homes, Alkimos Beach 4Jan 22, 2014 1:44 pm Hi pradiprn thanks for that! Not sure what I did wrong Hey Cranzy, good to hear! Do you have house plans at all yet to cater for that slope? Will be cool to see your plans! And for all reading, I'm preparing for prestart at the moment which is very difficult! Choosing everything on your own and trying to make it all work is hard! I want light and dark greys and whites on the exterior with blacks, whites and greys on the interior! Any ideas appreciated! My build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=69032 Re: First build: Commodore Homes, Alkimos Beach 5Jan 22, 2014 1:51 pm I would change the following; 1. door on theatre room 2. door on study 3. full length bench in laundry room 4. the master suite also seems a bit small, I wouldn't go for anything smaller than 4 x 4m My build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=68002 Re: First build: Commodore Homes, Alkimos Beach 6Jan 24, 2014 1:00 am Hey Burns, cheers for your input! I'll have to post the final working drawings as they are (obviously) different from the base plan. Haven't (yet) planned on a door for the theater however there will be one for the study (store). Will look into full length bench at prestart. Room a little small perhaps, but won't be spending too much time in there so all good First Build, Commodore Homes, Alkimos Beach. Planning for prestart and have most everything sorted except for render/roof/garage colours! I know I want to do black gutters and a dark blade feature, mixed with perhaps predominant white and some greys. If anyone has done similar colour schemes please do post up your pictures, I'm in need of inspiration, ideas, and colour codes! First Build, Commodore Homes, Alkimos Beach. My build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=69032 Re: Commodore Homes, Alkimos Beach - Colours colours colours 8Feb 26, 2014 11:39 pm Ok update! All interior flooring, cupboards, tiling, bench colours chosen! Super hard but stoked I got there. I've included a complete flooring provision in my contract and have selected the following: Carpets Trevor's Carpets darkest standard builders selection in beds 2, 3 and 4. Upgraded tohighest quality and darkest charcoal (can't remember the name, file is at work, will update) carpet in master bed and theatre. Upgraded to gold underlay throughout. Ensuite Crosby Tiles Fashion black wall tiles, Nice dark grey floor tile (again forgotten the name), Laminex burnished wood cupboards and polar white bench. Would love to tile to the ceiling, will see what it costs at prestart. The idea is to achieve this look: Bathroom, laundry Fashion white wall tiles with same dark grey floor tile as ensuite, same cupboards, and Laminex moose bench top (light grey) to break up the white. Living, kitchen This is what I'm most excited about. I spent a lot of time trying to get this right and I'm hoping to get get the modern, "wow" look I'm going for. Gastore Glass 450x450 floor tile. Laminex natural black cabinets, Essastone french black benchtop. And the three combined: I tried to edit them to bring up all the colours correctly but it was difficult! A little different and not so safe I'd imagine, but I'm really looking forward to seeing how it all turns out. Worst case scenario my best friend works for Laminex Any opinions most welcome! I'm at present toying with layout and stuff for our home theatre (and once we settle on a builder to question on stuff). Haha. I think the ensuite colouring you chose looks good and should easily matches the look you're going for. Re: Commodore Homes, Alkimos Beach - Colours colours colours 17Feb 28, 2014 10:14 pm i really like the brushwood cupboards, i wanted it in my kitchen but it didnt go with the floor i choose. Re: Commodore Homes, Alkimos Beach - Colours colours colours 18Feb 28, 2014 11:26 pm Hey TiredHalo, Yeah I spent some time trying to get it right and spent a bit extra to fancy it up by sinking it 4 courses and doing a recessed, coffed ceiling. Can't do too much with the size of it given I'm on a 14m block, but it will be good. I'm running it with the screen on the "left" wall as seen on the plan, so its like a long and narrow theatre set up Planning to run two level seating as well. Yeah dannislade I'm hoping they come up well! First Build, Commodore Homes, Alkimos Beach. Whereabouts in the estate are you? Have you chosen a builder or anything yet? Also for anyone else reading, prestart is booked for the 22nd May! What do I need to know? Can anyone that's been through prestart with Commodore offer any words of advice? First Build, Commodore Homes, Alkimos Beach.
