Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 23, 2015 3:16 pm Hi Guys, I'm trying to read and understand the developers engineering report that lays out things such as fill depths on your section of land. There are a bunch of numbers that are referred to in the legend as Existing surface level Design surface level Top of batter level I assume these are the developer saying 'the actual ground was at "existing surface level" we filled to "design surface level" and then topped it off to "top of batter level" ' Is this correct? I ask as the builder is claiming this report was incorrect and the fill depths are a lot more and so they need to put in piles at some rather large sum (based off a supposed fix price contract that I was assured would only change site works if they discovered a river under my lot *sigh* never trust a sales person) Cheers, Re: Interpreting the land developers report 3Jul 23, 2015 10:25 pm Hi that sounds interesting. Did you get a controlled(engineered) fill report with your block? We get it with our block, it means the fill has been compacted every 100mm(i think) to a specified value. From reading your picture your fall is from the back to front and right to left (ie rear is higher) the rear of your block is 10.22m high from whatever the reference point is. The front of your block started at 9.57m and has a final height of 9.81m. So 0.24m (240mm) of fill at the front of the block. And your block has a fall of 0.4m (400mm) rear to front. Our block has fill at the front and back so we had the same set of dimensions for the rear of the block too. This MAY mean you have no fill in the back of your so I wouldn't of thought your block wasn't bad for fill. Hopefully it is controlled fill. Have you had soil test done yet? As this will confirm what type of slab/footings you will require. As you had agreed a fixed price it sounds bit rich from the builder to want to change now. The above is just my opinion from my understanding of engineering drawings(I'm an engineer but not in Civil). To bet understand you could speak to your developer or a civil engineer. Our Build Thread - JG king Memphis I recently hit a snag with my new build with Metricon.
